ITV 2 HD is now on Astra 2A (28.2E) - 11758.00 H DVB-S2 (QPSK) - 29500 3/4 but only with BSkyB card

ITV 3 & 4 HD will almost certainly launch on there as well.

Looks like you need a subscription to the HD pack to receive them, not just any old Sky sub.

Of course what else were you expecting? - they are HD pack channels just like ITV2HD.. its always been the intention to have them as pay channels

You can get ITV1 HD FTV at 11973 V 27500 2/3 (2B South) without HD sub.

I think the old FreeSat version on EB1 fixed may also still be available FTA on 11428 H 27500 2/3 (can anyone confirm that?).

I think the powers that be at ITV must be crackers. It's one thing charging extra for premium content, but how many people are going to be inspired to upgrade their subscription so they can watch upscaled versions of The Saint or the Professionals... Or Jeremy Kyle for that matter. I'll just leave it up to my STB to do the upscaling and not have to pay for the privalage.
 
Not at all Huevos - the commercial argument is quite sensible. ITV know full well the HD audience is still small, so they get a few pence per subscriber from Sky for having them in the HD pay pack. Thats far more money than they would make from the additional advertising they can rake in from providing the HD service so:

ITV win - they get more money

Sky win - they get three extra channels in their HD pack unavailable to Freesat.

The Sky pay HD consumer wins - they get three extra HD channels to watch

The Freesat HD consumer loses but as they bring a minuscule amount of extra advertising revenue in they dont count. :D

In a few years when the majority of viewers are watching in HD it will be worth ITV sending them fta but its not going to be commercially viable for a handful of years yet.

Not really! Receivers like the Humax Foxsat do a pretty good job of upscaling SD channels. They look miles better than channels sent to the TV over a Scart connector. Is there any real HD content on ITV2/3/4?

There will be - especially on ITV3. ITV have been doing a lot of conversion work on their old dramas - anything shot on film is already at a far higher resolution than HD transmissions which is good news for fans of the old period dramas and detective series. :D

They look miles better than channels sent to the TV over a Scart connector.

I wouldnt know - I detest scart connections where multiple sources are connected to a tv and Im quite happy with rf over an aerial cable picture quality :-rofl2

Im going to split these posts off the psb channel thread as we are well off topic for it.
