Can anyone with more " Big Dish " experience advise if that motor could handle a Laminas 1.8 m dish ( thus I believe removing the need for a polar mount )

Hello,

The satellite dish(Laminas AS 1800) is installed 1 month ago, no problems with the SMR 1224 (addition of Superjack actuator 6 " for elevation (not original))

55,5 West

Best Regards

Looks good, no polar mount, seems you used the original Laminas backmount? I´m interested!

You can buy this back mount from CampanaSat in Italy but I received the wrong parts when I offered mine. Our make your own.

If you were to use 1224 for the Laminas 1800 I would reinforce it with some steel sheet inside so it doesn't snap. That alloy isn't as strong as it appears

I put this 4mm steel plate inside the SMR 1224 (I made it myself)

The SMR 1224 move easily my dish: from 68.5 East to 55,5 West.

That is a Panzer Plate, they are good for reinforcing the Jaeger 1224, I got some made up from 8mm steel.

Yes, that's a decent way of reinforcing it. Laminas is quite a light dish for its size - shouldn't be a problem for the 1224.

I think that the Jaeger 1224 is rated as OK for an Irte 2.4 metre dish. The adapter plate that comes with the Jaeger 1224 has pre-drilled bolt holes for both a channel master dish and an Irte dish. My understanding of the Jaeger 1224 model number is that it represents 1.2m for channel master and up to 2.4m for Irte. It should be easily capable of moving a 1.8m Laminas dish.

The particular 'Jumbo' motor I have drove 1.8m Channel Master dish for 6 years without issues. The whole case is made specifically with strength in mind. However, the internals are identical.

That mounting plate looks relatively straight forward to make. I was thinking about using parts of the existing az/el mount and figuring out a way to bolt them together, but that looks a lot more straight forward. ( Assuming I manage to acquire a motor somewhere )
