I have just upgraded my Samsung LE37R87BD HD LCD TV to a Samsung LE40B650 1080p Full HD LCD TV, just wanting to make sure which HDMi socket I connect the Dreambox 8000 to, is it HDMi (either 1 or 2) or HDMi 3 (says HDMi 3 is for DVI to HDMi connection).
Which is best to get the full picture and sound quality from the Dreambox??,
Also is there a way to get Full HD 1080p from the Dreambox 8000?? and if thats the case is it best connected to either the HDMi 1 and 2 sockets??

Thanks,

for the 8000, its an hdmi output, so its hdmi to hdmi
only dm800 and future dm500hd (i think) is DVI => HDMI

but what i don't understand is why your tv says hdmi2 is for dvi ?

basically, DVI is hdmi without sound, nothing to do with picture, but the dm800 has some propetary dmi socket which also outputs sound, so its not "real" dvi (i think once more :p)

macaaron20, it doesn't matter, you can use any input to the TV. The Dreambox is not capable of outputting 1080p. You can select 720p or 1080i. I'm not aware of any satellite broadcaster that uses 1080p.

hashman99, the DM8000 does not have HDMI output. It too has the DVI output. The upcoming 500HD will be the first box to carry a HDMI output and therefore has a HDCP license.

OK, and Cheers, seems a stupid question but no harm in double checking..
so its perfectly safe to have it connected in HDMi 2?? I like have things just perfect, lol, (i.e. I have my Blu-ray player in HDMi 1 via my Pioneer Amp/Receiver, so I may as well have the Dreambox in HDMi 2 or possible via the Amp/Receiver as with my Blu ray player but not sure if the dreambox will pass through the Amp/Receiver when I've not got the Amp/Receiver switched on, in which case I'll need to connect the dreambox to HDMi 2 on the TV

If you have a seperate amp capable of taking HDMI inputs and switching them, then you will get the most benefit plugging your dreambox into the amp as then you will get much better sound (surround). If you just plug it into the TV then you will be stuck with the TV's poor simulation of surround sound. However, as the dreambox does not implement full HDMI, this might not work, in which case you can plug the optical out of the dreambox into the optical in of the amp (if it has optical in). So the first choice is HDMI(dreambox) to HDMI(amp) and if that does not work or is not possible, then optical to optical and the HDMI(DVI) from dreambox into the TV(HDMI 2). The optical option does mean that you will have to switch the TV and the amp to the correct input when watching satellite TV.
