A servo motor there John, but no idea what the other gear is for. Something along the lines of multi-LNB rotation?

..... In a round about way i suppose M ...

I had a thought a couple of months ago about using Ka with the ability to do linear H / V using just one PLL lnb with some skew control as a bonus and with the least amount of signal sapping components in the way.
As this is not going to be used at focus on the 1.8CM i felt i needed to give myself the best start by going for a PLL lnb. The servo motor is just a way of swinging through 90deg for H/V... or even slant polorisation lol but also allowing me to have some fine skew adjustment as a bonus. Now i know this is not in the same quality engineering product as our good friend Trust1 , who's skills i greatly admire, along with others on this forum, but not too bad for a contracting Sparky.
I had worries that the servo would not work on the end of a 20mtr length of .5mm x 3core cable but supprisingly it did ok, so that was one worry out of the way.
Again, the bits came out of the left-overs box that went into the 1.8CM re-build apart from the small abs box, cable .... got a van full. The BIG expense was, youv'e guessed it, the XMW Ka PLL lnb :eek::eek::eek::eek:
Because of the shape of these lnb's it would be possible to just slide a different band Ka lnb in if you fancied it :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.

I'm just waiting for for the XMW to arrive before i can exactly fabricate the holding arms so to speak. I have an engineering drawing of it but i prefer to have it in front of me to work with.

More than a few weeks ago i made the painful decision to put the relentless search for a Hughes 18.2 - 19.2 GHz lnb into standby mode and go down the route of a XMW pll one so as to at least get my project running again for this particular Ka H/V band. Very expensive option i can tell you ...... the Government import charges alone were nearly £76 :eek::eek:. Anyway fetched this today from the Nottingham Parcel Farce depot an handed over the cash begrudgingly . The build can now continue ....

@ Llew, did you at one time try one of Trust's custom made circular feeds on the XMW that he made for the SL3 projects ??, because mine is going to be spun through 90 deg for H / V i,m looking for a suitable feed that the 1.8 CM will illuminate. I think you went back to the XMW one as in my pic did you not.

Nice John :D
Crazy indeed, the duty we have to pay on this stuff.
The FD9000 will be a correct match, as it's a Ka A band feedhorn. It was the only one available from XMW when we purchased the Ka D Band LNB. so there would have been a degree of mismatch (use of DIY feedhorns improved things however).
It's brilliant with the Hughes 18.2-19.2 though ;)

I can't recall using the Trust feeds on any LNB other than the SL3s John. Just the XMW FD9000 and feedhorns taken from Invert0/Triax Ka LNBs.

I wouldn't presume to suggest what type of of feedhorn to use for Ka on your 1.8 dish, a little out of my range, 1.2m max here

Nice lnb there :-) looking forward to seeing the results.

I keep looking for the hughesnet lnb as I need another one to give me horizontal polarisation.

But they don't come up to often.

Enjoy your new lnb, what dish will you be putting it on?

Going on the lnb changer on the 1.8 at the moment Chris but next year (day after tomorrow) ... will put it on a dedicated changer for Ka units only on a metal 1.5 Gib dish and make it a rear motor design like Trust1 & Rimants designs and use a spare 1224 H-H motor. That's the plan anyway, but the world might have come to an end first with how things are going lol.
