You only need a junior hacksaw and a file, you will be very lucky if what you are about to fit does not leak.

I'll make sure to place some self-amalgamating tape between tap and pipe, works to keep water out of satellite cabling, so should in theory keep water inside the pipes...

Well, I spent the morning dismantling, cleaning, polishing, re-assembling the old tap and have refitted it.

Works fine with no drips now!

I shall retain the new tap in the spares box for now (along with the new seals Martin has kindly offered)

until

either a. I can be a**ed

or b. There is a major failure of the old one.

I've removed the tails and both washers are chewed: Can see the sharp edge to the start of the female threads but unclear how to file them smooth without risking damage.

At least my kitchen is bone dry, in the same way 2CV's won't be soon!

I never said our kitchen was dry, there's already a leak from something somewhere that wasn't my doing making the plaster fall off the wall behind the sink...

I just use a little flat file or some sand paper rolled up tivu, it only needs the sharpness taking off the first little bit nothing major,
