Known Dreambox issues?

My Satellite Setup
Ubuntu Linux desktop computer wired to a 1 Mbps internet.
Dreambox 500s satellite receiver that I just bought, replacing the old Humax 5100.
My Location
Egypt, Cairo
Hey guys, I'm about to go return my DM500s because of low volume and regular freezing issues and I was wondering if any of the other models had similar known issues, because I might get another model.

Your DM500 is a clone, it's not surprising it has issues. It's and old design running old software. Get a genuine Enigma2 based dreambox like a DM800 or wait for the new DM7020 HD.

The problems you mention could ofcourse be setup / application issues and nothing to do with the quality of the box. When you refer to freezing, can you confirm this is caused by your hardware and not by your signal strength or decryption techniques....

To answer your question, a Dreambox setup properly does not suffer like this.

Do the fta channels freeze or is it just the encrypted channels? If its just the pay channels and you are using a card share then thats your problem and a new receiver wont make much difference.
 
as B16MCC says this is most likely configuration as compared to box issues. you do not mention what image you are using, you do not mention if the freezing is specific to certain channels or to all channels, similiar with your audio issues. i would assume that at least you would have flashed your box with a current image rather than the extremely old image that most have these clones come with. have you done this. do you have a card in the box or are you receiving channels from a share, in which case the problem could be the share and not your box at all. you need to answer these questions first before anyone can help you further
 
This is surely hot tuner issues! i have heard from ppl in hot weather countries that clone DM500 does this. just fit in normal CPU fan and your issue will be resolved, again all the above are also possible, however i would think its heat issue hence its about 42 in your country!
 
it wouldnt make as diffrence if you switched boxes because dm 500 even though there are clones they run perfectly as i have a few of them with no problems. freezing would be due to the internet if your running a card share when i have downloads at high speeds on the box tends to start freezing up and if your equipment set up is right then 1mbps is pretty low and crap so that would be the cause of freezing
 
agreed, cccaminfo indicates how many ecms are transported successfully so you get a good idea on how a share is working. however i also agree with the comment that clones simply do not deliver the same quality as the real thing. in every instance i have had a problem i can always point to the clone as being the issue. all other cases have been related to internet speed
 
As opposed to recommending the DM800, I would recommend the DM500HD as I find it much better than the DM800 that I have. Both are genuine Dreamboxes - I don't buy clones.
