sky digi box , freesat box, 1.5m offset dish

This is my first attempt at setting up a system

I have just bought a 1.5 metre dish
INVACOM, NF 0.3db Part No SNH-031 Lo 9.75/10 6GHz
Konig DV3 SAT-SDTA11KN

The seller advised that everything was working when he used it

I have setup satellite, skew etc but when viewing antenna setup my 'signal intensity' is 45% and my signal quality is 5%

When I disconnect cable from LNB the above percentages are the same

Ihave tested the cable and it is OK


Does anyone know whay this LNB would not increase the signal intensity

I have tried locating a number of satellites but get no variation from the above after hours of trying
 
what satellite are you pointing the dish at?

the behaviour you have from you receiver sounds seems like the dish isn't pointing at anything.

how are you aligning the dish? (use dispointer.com to get approx elevation, set your dish to that. Make sure elevation is correct, the mount must be vertical. Else use an inclinometer (you can make one from cardboard and a piece of string). Then set the azimuth to approx where dishpointer is telling you, then move the dish side to side slowly until you get a signal.)

try 19.2E or so, it has pretty strong transponders.
 
oh, and make sure the box thinks it's looking at the sat you want to receive, i.e. is looking for the proper frequencies for that particular sat.

It is not recommended to disconnect cable without turning off receiver. And if this is your very first experience with SAT TV, than you better ask somebody to help you.

Yes, more or less: In general, both Strength and Quality readings will show at some quiescent level until such time as a sniff of a real signal is found - at which point you are looking for a significant upswing in both readings, especially Quality.

The beamwidth of a 1.5m is so tight that really small errors in Azimuth, Elevation or both will mean you miss the relevant Satellite entirely. Precision is absolutely essential.

There are, however, any number of "schoolboy errors" that people tend to make with their first installation and these are quickly and easily identified or eliminated if you Post some pics (Upload to our server).
 
You have to set the correct LO frequency and LNB type in your menu settings under the satellite, that LNB is a "Universal" type so the LO would be 9750 or 10600 depending on what satellite your looking at, also check to see if the LNB power is set to "On".

Your "S" readings should be a lot higher if the LO signals are set to the right ones.

Also check to see that the coax is not the stuff used for cable TV or TV antennas, as that coax has too high a signal loss to be used for satellite work.

"S" is the LO signal from the LNB to the receiver, not from the satellite.

How long is your coax?
 
And one last thing,

That LNB uses a 22 KHz tone to switch between the LO frequencies, if the satellite transponders are in the 10.7 to 11.7 GHz band then you need to have the 22 KHz tone set to "OFF", this will use the 9750 LO.

If the satellite transponders are in the 11.7 to 12.7 GHz band then you need to have the 22 KHz tone set to "ON", this will use the 10750 LO.

If a "Universal" setting is selected, often 22KHz tone is automatically selected as appropriate and the option to manually select it is greyed out.
 
I totally agree, but in some cases the default setting can be "OFF", this would/could be receiver dependent, it would be a good idea on his part to check that setting.

By 'S' do you mean strength of signal or what I see as 'signal intensity'

When receiver is in house with no cable this fluctuates between 39-41%
When outside with cable only vconnected it is on 45% then when cable is connected to LNB it stays at 45%

should the signal intensity be higher regardless of where it is pointing?

And yes "S" refers to the signal strength from the LNB to the receiver, with only 20 meters of coax this should be higher. (I get 95% when connected to a LNB on the workbench without pointing at a satellite, this is with a 1 meter cable)

It bouncing around without the receiver connected to the coax is just the AGC in the receiver trying to lock onto a signal.

An even when not pointing at a satellite this should be higher then 45%, (with 20 meters of cable attached) some reasons it won't be above 50% is too long a run of coax, a bad cable or connector, water in the coax, a bad switch, no power to the LNB or a bad LNB, a corroded center conductor or a bad power supply in the receiver.

I don't have one of you receivers so I don't know what its for,(LNB power ?????) you will have to wait for someone with that type of receiver to answer this.
 
Just connected the Bulgarian Bulsatcom Receiver and found Turksat 2A 3A within a few minutes so looks like receiver or receiver setup
 
0/12 v should be off ............. it's just a feature for operating certain types of external switch.

Now, let's go right back to Post #6 where I suggested you Post up some pics.

Otherwise, we could be here some considerable time batting back and forth ideas which may be irrelevant.


Edit: Forget that for now: Somehow, I didn't scroll down as far as your last Post.
 
So, if we accept it's the Konig Rx, and we've been through LNB settings, perhaps we should take a look at DiSEqC settings?

Clutching at straws a bit now, but hey, we are working in the dark!

Also, are you using a valid Transponder during alignment? Pre-stored lists are invariably out of date.
