Laminas 1.2m - LNB \ optimal setup​

howdy all - happy weekend.

i decided to tweak my setup today, as i had a feeling i wasn't getting the most out of the dish since installing it in the summer.

what i noticed was that the LNB holder default position actually holds the LNB too low in the holder, so i dont think its using the full dish face....i slowly angled up the LNB in its holder and watched the signal rise slightly in front of my eyes.

ive manaed to wedge the LNB in a slightly raised position, so now getting much better signals than i was getting....obviously i have ensured the dish and motor were optimal before i did this.

very happy with results, now getting Sky News on 1w at 100% signal instead of 89\91% - and thats true for all of the ARC - extreme west and east....

finally i feel, the step up to 1.2m was worth it from 1m.

PS I find the technomate gold (twin) LNB better than the IBU *quad* - certainly on this dish

I wonder how long it will be before you start thinking "hmmm, what would I be getting with a 1.5m dish or a 1.8m dish"

Thanks . Yes. Although nowhere to put anything bigger. If I had a field for a garden I would have a 1.8 or 2.4...and then probably still be unsatisfied

15.6db mate - it seems to be my max...

and 15.6db on 0.8° west 11900 H 30000 Music Ch

Normally, when you aim the LNB higher (while in the current LNB-holder), also the feedhorn phase center moves a bit upwards.
And from what I've learned till now, phase center position is more important than precise aiming angle of the LNB.

So I really wonder if in your case the new aiming is better, or the new phase center position is better.
Otherwise, after aiming higher, you'd have to have had the elevation tweaked again, I would think.


Apart from that, as far as I know, when the illumination angle of the LNB allows it, aiming a bit above the G-spot normally gives a bit better reception.
(The G-spot is the place on the dish, where the angle from focus to top and bottom of the dish is halved. So it is still some distance below the deepest point.)
So normally I advise to aim at the G-spot, or a bit above that.

thanks for the techy explanation, not sure how it happened, it was just something I noticed whilst the LNB was loose in the holder, noticed when angled back slightly, the signal went up - around 5-10% - happy with result, didnt affect ARC at all.
