Hi,

i have finally enabled the onboard ethernet LAN connection on my motherboard as i want to set up a direct connection with my new dreambox.
It installed no problem and it has automatically set up a default network which it says it is unplugged.
i have checked the ip adress by doing ipconfig /all in the command prompt but it doesnt give me one. So i went into the tcp/ip and manually entered and IP and gateway. i then did the ipconfig /all again and it still doesnt show an IP address.

can anyone help me?

regards

Gareth

You may need a cross-over cable for a direct connection without a hub or switch.

Please describe exactly what hardware/cabling etc you have connected, and a screenshot of your IP network properties for the adaptor concerned.

yea what pgh13 and bgonastick said. when you say that ipconfig/all dont list an ip address do you mean it has XXXXX's in its place? does it show the gateway and other info?

you can hook your DB up to the tv and go to commucations and find its ip. when setting up your ips make sure your host and the DB has the same 1st three numbers i.e 192.168.1.24 and 192.168.1.2. if the first three numbers dont match i dont believe it wont be seen on the network.

The cable i have says RJ-602 on it which i beleive is a patch cable and not a cross over cable.

the device name is "NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Controller"
the settings for the LAN connection is

IP: 192.168.1.24
Gateway: 255.255.255.0

the ipconfig/all says:

Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : kebab
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Control
ler
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-20-ED-8E-AA-73

any ideas?

Are you connecting through a hub?......
If not then pgh13 may be correct you need a crossover cable.... not a standard patch lead

kebabinho,
aight we see what your host is showing but have you went to the tv and see what the DB is saying its ip is? if one of the 1st 3 octes is different than thats one of the problems. them 3 octes has to be the same to be seen on the network. brother i believe you are going to need a rj45 eithernetcable.

you have a physical problem - to me I'd say based on what info is in the posts
that you have wrong cable type.... or either you are using straight through when it expects cross over or vice versa...
