It is a pity but the shuttel was not that safe to use. Sitting on a small nuke at takeoff and pray - still the Russki rockets are mostly the same flying bomb.

Hope for the space elevator as soon as they can make a good cable for it

It looks like the weather won't permit it - unless they can fire it through a very small window (I dread to think what respons that choice of words will elicit).

is there any sign of a NASA TV HD feed anywhere?
(I know there is one on ustream)
I know that news channels will carry it, but Ideally would love to see it without all the newgraphics all over the place...

And increase to full size (though it is very bandwidth hungry).

Coutdown back on, down to nine minutes.

Not enough Bandwidth for stable HD here, so gone to Mobile Feed.

Massive storm overhead here, so likely to lose elastic trickery any moment.

Our own storm did knock out the juice briefly, but it looks to have cleared now.

Thankfully we were upgraded to auto line reclosers last year. Before that any interruption needed human intervention.

Hopefully there'll be no further interruptions to this historical milestone.

They didn't have electronic confirmation on the full retraction of the "gaseous vent arm", the little cap on top of the main fuel tank that vents any hydrogen/oxygen away from the orbiter, they went to visual via camera and then continued the count down, great launch, wish I was there.

I've seen 2 Saturn V launches but missed out on a shuttle launch, saw one land at Edwards in Southern California, its a big show.

Too bad our current government is too short sighted to continue on with our manned space program, there should have been a replacement to continue on, now we are a 3rd rate space faring country.
