My friend has a car with an expired MOT cert. I dont want to know the wrongs of what he has done.

When he takes his car in for its MOT, will the garage question or even ask for a previous copy of the out of date MOT cert?

This is UK by the way

Forgot mine the other week. Took it in and expected them to backdate but they didn't. So apart from the hassle it could have caused if I'd been in an accident all was OK.

I shouldn't think so. Anyway, he could just say its been off the road. They don't ask for the old cert these days if you are getting it tested early because the old cert is on computer (unless it hasn't been tested in recent years). I think as long as it is insured you are allowed to drive to a pre booked MOT even if it isn't taxed.

shouldnt matter since they should read the chassis number etc off the car itself and the mot will start from the day its tested not when the last one ran out.

Thanks fella's. His car tax is fine. As I said, my mates MOT has expired by 2 months and he has been a naughty boy by leaving it late.

He is just hoping that when he takes his car in to get it MOT's that they wont ask questions

When you present a car for an MOT the garage has no interest in when your MOT ran out or why you are late.

Now that the MOT system is computerised the testing station just adds the Reg number and the mileage to the system and that is it.

Testers do not add any remaining time you have on an MOT, it is done automatically.

Your m8 does not need to make an excuse or even say him MOT has expired.
