Sounds like an analogue receiver, there are some very cheap digital receivers around, many mentioned in this section. :)

No - you most definitely do not need a Sky Digital receiver. They are semi crippled boxes that are clunky and unpleasant to use away from Sky services. Buy a Technomate, Echostar, or FortecStar receiver, or one of the several dozen other digital receiver makes you see mentioned across the forum.

Playing with satellite tv can be an expensive hobby. Buy second hand from ebay if you are on a tight budget, (or take up stamp collecting ;))

Ive got one of them. :D Nice little receiver, but if its like mine ignore the puff about then blind scan - its dreadfully slow, and you are better off putting the tp's in yourself from a printed list..

And its tiny:D

At present, the Fortec Star digital sat receiver seems to be sellling at around £40, about the cheapest "known name" receiver generally available (oldish, no blind scan, but ok).
