Good point!

True story: decades ago I went on holiday to Ibiza with a group of friends and, of course, we ate (and drank!!) out every night at various cafes & bars. One night "everyone" decided to have paella - at which point I said something like "OK, as long as it doesn't have any octopus or squid in it!" - everyone else laughed at me when they realized that I was totally serious!

And, changing the subject just slightly, on 2 or 3 nights we ate (and drank!) at one particular downstairs bar that we got to like a lot - and so got to know the staff quite well as a result. Lots of good food - and particularly the kebabs and icecream.

Thus, on the night before we came home, one of the party somewhat jokingly (and probably quite pissed at the time) asked for an icecream kebab! - which was ceremoniously delivered, in the form of 3 scoops of icecream on a kebab skewer, by the bar owner some minutes later.:-rofl2

PS: that was also the place where the "spelling" on the "English" version of the menu was somewhat "approximate" at times - thus, for ever after in that group of friends, mushrooms were known as "muhrooms" because whoever wrote the menu forgot the "s" :D

Ice cream is a great medium

Very interesting method of creating that ice cream. Not sure if I´d want to try it, could end up with finger tip topping!

No cooking yesterday, the paella was for 4-6 people so had seconds yesterday. Possibly better on the second day and it doesn´t freeze well.
Anyway, having received the bad news yesterday of the confirmation of another 2 weeks of lockdown , there was some good news as there is more and more talk of de-escalation of the state of alarm. Maybe light at the end of this tunnel? Obviously things will not be normal.
In light of this, the misses has decided to attempt to return to her " diet " cooking rather than eat my " high sugar " " full fat " versions. I´m not sure if tonight´s meal is from Weight Watchers, Slimming World or " A pinch of nom ", but to be fair they normally taste OK!
I know it´s going to be a curry again, will post pics later when it´s done.

Do you ever get that " I wish I hadn´t said that " feeling? Or in this case wrote that.
Don´t know if it´s down to " cabin fever " or lack of practice. But both me and the misses agreed it was virtually inedible!

Looked OK in the pan, a little bit too dark in colour perhaps?

Looked OK in the dish.
However, when it came to the taste test!
I politely ate half, could not take anymore. The misses was braver than me, by adding three large spoons of natural yoghurt she got through hers.
Discussing the flavour, it came to light there was a whole tin of tomato puree and about 250ml of tomato frito, as well as the normal spices and ginger. I think the tomatoes were grown in the little shop of horrors!
She has asked me to cook tomorrow!

Quiet day today, just a few bits to fix inside the house and a bit more in the garden. No shopping for two days as apparently if the police see your car everyday you could be liable for the minimum 600€ fine because your exit from the house cannot be justified.
So to dinner, could have had egg and chips, or a home made burger, but fancied something different so went through the fridge to see what needed using before throwing. Found some salad bits, little gems and some cherry tomatoes, and some mature cheddar cheese. In the cupboard I keep the bread a dryish bit of baguette. So I came up with this...
Friedcheese.jpg
Cheese in breadcrumbs, shallow fried, on a bed of lettuce and tomato with a mini omelette ( left over egg for sticking the breadcrumbs to the cheese)

I used to love eating in when on holiday in Greece

We are allowed out to buy bread every day (a stale baguette can be used to hammer nails) and so as long as we have our form we are ok. Not that we see the gendarmes anyway...

Incidentally, 'let them eat cake' (supposedly said by Marie Antoinette when there was a French famine) actually meant 'let them eat brioche'..

Just been on a bin run and spoke to one of the other residents who was doing the same. He advised his friend got a 600€ fine for trying to go to the Iceland supermarket about 20 mins away. He was stopped by the police and advised he was too far from home and should use more local shops. Expensive trip and didn´t get there as was told to turn around and go back.
Going shopping myself later, to a local supermarket!

What a shitty grey miserable day with rain and drizzle. At least here. The upside I got the shopping without the 600€ local movement charge!
Anyway, a day for comfort food.

Home made burger with crispy bacon, crispy onions, topped with grated four cheese ( from a packet ) served in a roll with home made chips on the side.

Good news for us in Spain today. They have let the under 14 year olds out for an hour per day to play or to exercise ( accompanied by an adult ) which is a step forward. If the contagion and death figures continue to improve then adults will be allowed out on May 2nd for the same, although not stated if for one hour or longer.
So to todays dinner, standard roast chicken with the trimmings except no stuffing! Chicken cooked in an oven bag with a sachet of garlic and lemon spice mix, so hardly any prep at all. Won´t bother with pics of that, not worth it. Spent the spare time making a pud instead. Lemon cheesecake without the cheese! Will post pics if it works.

We already have a competition known as "King of the Sunflowers" - maybe you should start another one called "King of the Kitchen" :D

Not a problem! - as the thread-starter, you choose the "theme" each week/month, and "every so often" choose one where you know you've got a very good chance of winning :)
