Life in lockdown

Brawn. Eurghh. Disgusting stuff.

No arguments. No discussion. No debates. Just awful.
 
I remember having brawn during the period of rationing just after WW2. My mother made it from leftovers sourced from goodness knows where. A welcome treat after yesterday's bread and dripping.
It's how we made do in those dark days. A taste of things to come post-pestilence?
 
Well, after another exciting day in lockdown, bagging up some tree cuttings, then taking said bag to the bin. Then a nice stroll to the recycling bins about 150 meters in the other direction, went shopping for tonight´s dinner. Found some pork chops with the skin on in the local butchers, most of the Spanish supermarkets only sell the chops without the skin, so no crackling :oops:, so here is tonight´s " special of the house "

Did like some of the comments above, but some new recipes would be good. Got one from a friend via WhatsApp, corned beef and vegetable pie. If I can track down some corned beef will give it a go!

OK, I waltzed right into that one!
So tomorrow, chicken paella , but I don´t do bones so just using the breast.
What English meal for you?

Only after we've eaten all the locust and frogs legs that will have rained down on the land.
 
After another exciting day in lockdown, including a trip to the shop which means I cannot go out tomorrow, decided to cook the evening meal.
As promised yesterday, nothing British, that is I don´t think there´s anything British about it.
However, I think the song got it wrong. There are 4 steps to heaven.

I really hope there was NO squid/octipus in in that - I REALLY CAN'T tell you JUST HOW MUCH I HATE the taste & texture of those things! OTOH, I suspect that, unfortunately, there might have been because it would appear that you can't make a "decent paella" without them - but that's just the Spanish for you :rolleyes:

I'm no "food critic" 'cause I'll eat many things and am really not fussy about the taste, most of the time - it's just that I really "hate" anything with squid or octopus in it because of the texture and taste!

PS: love garlic (as does SWMBO! :-clap) and so that's not a problem - OTOH, the "other stuff " is "verboten" as far as I/we are concerned:rolleyes:.

A few years back we were on holiday in Seville and took a days cookery course on how to make a paella. We were told in no uncertain terms by the chef that paella can only be called that, if it's made with chicken or rabbit. Anything else is a spicy seafood risotto made in a paella pan..
