Linux Mint 18.2 "Sonya" has just been released.

Can either be freshly installed or can be upgraded via the simple expedient of using Update Manager to bring Level 1 Updates, errm, up to date, then going in to the Update Manager's Edit Menu, where an option to perform the Version Upgrade can be found.

Happy days, got the pc up to a triple boot now - Mint 17.3, Debian 9 and Mint 18.2 all xfce desktop and the two Mints using VM Ware Player to run a Windows 10 vm for work, all nicely configured on two monitors and extended desktop.
Root partitions of all 3 on one ssd and the /home and swap on two 2.5" mechanical hdd. I'm happy!! For now........

I took the opportunity to install LightDM in place of MDM, using the Terminal.

A fresh install of 18.2 has LightDM natively but, for reasons I think I understand, the Upgrade path from 18.1 omits it.

Very clean, nice and simple and definitely the slickest and fastest Mint yet.
