Hi

I have a Dreambox (DM800) which I am pretty familiar with and have used for a few years without problems viewing DStv is South Africa . However, it's now back here in the UK and I struggle with setting up the LNB correctly to successfully scan all available channels on 28.2E.

Can anyone offer me help, or advise a link, that can tell me how to set up a standard LNB? It is currently set to 'advanced', 'User Defined' (LOF/L 09750, LOF/H 10700, Threshold 11700) but I presume these are incorrect and the reason why I don't successfully scan all available channels?

9750/10600 for a standard universal lnb.

Change the type to universal and it should all fall into place.

Thanks for the quick replies. I do recall that these settings are critical.

Have set to 'advanced', 'Universal LNB' and have saved settings. But when I do Auto Scan I now get nothing (ie. NO channels found). Maybe a stupid question, but can I just do an Autoscan or do I need to set something else before I do an Autoscan?

Yes, it did register many channels, incl BBC HD, but none of the Sky HD channels, for eg. That was when set to old South African settings, ie. 'User Defined' (LOF/L 09750, LOF/H 10700, Threshold 11700). Same Quad LNB is connected to a Freesat and that works OK.

Sounds like you are only scanning for fta channels.

Forgive me asking what might be stupid questions, but if this is the case, how would I scan ALL channels?

Ive never used an 800 so I cant be specific, but somewhere in the scan settings will be a field which can be changed.

Typically it will toggle between something similar to Fta only & all

The Freeview receiver doesn't see channels like Sky HD, either. Would this be normally the case (even though you cannot view them), or does their absence on the Freeview receiver suggest an LNB problem?

Freeview or Freesat

Sky HD isnt carried on Freeview, and Freesat is for free channels only so you wouldnt expect it to see encrypted HD channels.

The freesat receiver shouldnt see any premium sky channels if I`m correct in my thinking?

Did you install the dish and/or LNB yourself or where they already in place?

If you tell us what your Freesat Receiver actually is, we may better be able to answer your question.

But, given that Sky HD are obviously not on the Freesat EPG, you'd be talking about non-Freesat mode: In this mode, you will find that the pre-stored Transponder lists are way out of date and need manually editing to correspond with listings as shown on flysat, lyngsat etc.

(There is a Network Scan function, but it still won't bring up the Sky HD Channels on your list).

With an up to date TP list and the correct Scan settings selected, the Sky HD labels will come up, not that they will be of any use to you.

Finally, given the confusion between Freeview and Freesat, do you actually have a Freesat Receiver? Or is it a generic Receiver? Even if it is, my remarks about out of date lists for TPs still holds - although you might find a Blind/Auto scan feature which makes life easier.

Apologies for the limited knowledge, but when I left the UK 17 years ago there was only BBC1 + 2, ITV and Channel 4!!!

I do have a Freesat receiver and I do understand that maybe it doesn't display channels by default that are not actually free-to-view. I was only curious to know if it might 'see' all channels so as to eliminate the LNB, but I am sure the LNB is fine and that it is the Dreambox settings that need changing.

The LNB was already installed when I bought the house, previous owners used it to view Sky. It works perfectly OK for Freesat and I did have a few hundred channels registered on the Dreambox, but not all, eg Sky HD. It was set to previous South African LNB settings, which were 'advanced', 'User Defined' (LOF/L 09750, LOF/H 10700, Threshold 11700). I used these and scanned successfully, but no Sky HD, for eg. I do recall that the LOF settings were critical and that if set incorrectly I lost many of my BBC channels in South Africa.

I have now set it to 'advanced', 'Universal LNB' (which I presume defaults to LOF/L 09750, LOF/H 10600?) but now I scan and find nothing.

There are other options in the DM800 setup, such as Satfinder and Manual Scan, but I have never understood whether these are relevant or not when updating the LNB settings. I use Automatic Scan after updating the LNB settings, but now no channels found. There must be DM800 owners that have a better understanding than I do and can offer me assistance?

Hope this all makes sense?

Just to eliminate something change the location for the 800 for the Freesat box. If the Freesat box works in the 800 location you know the cabling in location 1 is ok & vice versa

Yes, if I replace Dreambox with Freesat, it works fine, so wiring OK.

Instead of having to scan all the channels better to dowload new settings to the box. It's easyer.

Not sure how you discovered it was the tuner but "thanks" anyway.

Thanks for letting us know it's fixed. It's good when we have an answer that may help others.
