Hi,

Would be grateful for any help on this issue. We are having to move our satellite dish for Sky Q because our neighbours have built a loft extension and it is blocking our signal. They have offered to pay to have it moved to the chimney but on phoning Sky I discovered their Special Access Team do not cover chimneys so if it goes wrong we would have to employ a private contractor. So my question is, does anyone know the approximate shelf life of an LNB.

Thanks for any help.

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC

Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
Unused in a box on the shelf...........Years and years.

Used and sitting on a work bench, months to a year or two, depending on how many times the spouse tell's you to clean up the garage, and you finally do it and things wind up in the junk box, get tumbled around, stuff piled on top of it, and things get lost then found only to be lost again.

If the chimney is being used (wood or coal) then don't mount it so the soot gets on the LNB, that will affect the signals quite a bit.

Thank you - definitely not sitting in a box! Chimney is unused apart from the pigeons

I think you probably mean operational life? The Q LNB is a bit of an unknown, as they've only been in operation for a few months, normal LNBs can last 10 years or more.

I would imagine the shelf life of a lnb would be akin to that of a wallflower, up to xx years until it is past it´s best and no longer desirable. Just a guess though. xx

Thank you - hopefully it will be on the chimney for many years before it needs replacing.
