lnb shows no signal, but the sat is detected

My Satellite Setup
Raven's G90, Technomate 5400 CI+, 4 LNBs pointing at Astra1, Astra 2, Hotbird, Sirius 4.

Hi everyone,

I have a somewhat unusual problem. I'm located in Edinburgh, and the setup I have is a G90 Raven dish with 4 Lnbs going to a Technomate 5400 CI+ receiver through a 4-way switch. The lnbs are aimed at Astra2 28, Astra1 19, Hotbird 13(dish focus), and Sirius 4.8. Now, the first 3 work fine. The last one (Sirius) is detected with a basic sat finder (although it doesn't tell me which sat it's picking up, just that there is one...), but shows no signal on the receiver. Why is that?

I remember reading somewhere, possibly even on this forum, that in cases such as this, one should try switching places of lnbs - e.g. swap #3 and #4 on the switch. I've tried that and it doesn't change anything. I apologize if this has already been answered - I just can't find the answer here.

You have probably not found the correct satellite, hence why it isn't being detected by your receiver.
 
No. I do have the right Satellite tuned.

I sort of solved the problem. While my signal strength is at around 80%, my quality is around 20%... which is why I thought there was no signal.
However, if I tune into a channel, it works...
Go figure.... Anyone knows why this is?
 
If the Sirius LNB is offset too far from the centre of the dish, is too high or two low, then this would affect the signal strength and quality.
 
Hi, there check your cables you are using going from the LNB to you sky box, if the cables are the types were you have put your own ends on, try and buy a really good cable with the srew on ends already on the type that you can just pull off with your hand, this fixed my problem which sounds just the same thing to me, I hope you manage to get it up & running with full signal again,

A Skybox isn't of any use on Sirius.

He's using a Technomate 5400.

In my case, Sirius LNB is indeed offset far from the centre of the dish - focused on 13 degrees. However, the Astra 2 lnb (28.3 degrees) is offset much further, but shows both good strength and quality.

Also, my assumption would be that with low quality the signal would be prone to breaking up - it doesn't do that at all. It was even solid through rain last night. Basically, it works the same as, say, the focal lnb quality-wise. That's fine with me (if it works, don't break it), but I'd like to understand the phenomenon for when I have to change it. :)
 
I didn't say far, I said too far (or perhaps not far enough), meaning that it isn't quite in the correct place, similarly with the height or not pointing at the centre of the dish. Also Astra 28.2E is a significantly stronger satellite in your location so not really useful for comparison.

If you are getting 80% signal strength, then you should be getting a much better quality reading than 20%, but then again if you are receiving the channels you require without problem, leave it alone.
