LNB works fine with Sky, but not Echostar Freesat. What's up?

Hi,

I've just dumped Sky for Freesat and bought an Echostar HDS-600RS for this. But...when I connect the two LNB cables to the Echostar box, I get no signal at all on either. Zilch.

I re-connected the Sky box to check and all is fine - very strong signals and quality. I took my Echostar box to my neighbour's and tried with his Sky connections. There it works fine too. I'd previously used my connections with a Humax Freesat PVR too, with no problem.

So - can anyone offer me their experience in suggesting what might be causing this behaviour?

Some boxes can be a bit picky about LNBs and you may have to fit another one. Do you know what make of LNB is there at the moment?
 
I don't know the make/model of the LNB. It's very high up (!) and it was the last thing I was expecting to have to change.

Problem is - without knowing the problem, I could even get a new LNB and find out it's not going to work.

Yes, there can be compatibility problems between some receivers and LNb's. It may also be a slight mis-alignment issue where one box gets a lock and another doesn't. I'd suggest you get the dish checked for alignment :)
 
hello, if this is a new box it may no be set up from the box.
look at the box set up.
universal lnb
9.750 lo 1
10.600 lo 2
22 knz on or auto
cross over 11.700
lnb power on

if your lnb power is off you will not get anything.
if the sky box works then the dish is fine.

also look at what satellite the box is set on.
you may have to do a search. on 28.3 astra for free view

This is a Freesat receiver Ralph, if it's the same as most of the others, you can't get to the settings until it thinks it has a lock, but in any case, they all come set up with standard settings for Astra 28.2.

It is most probably as has been mentioned above, alignment on Eurobird (where the default transponder is), or the Echostar doesn't like the LNB, I've had a couple which didn't like the Sky quad installed and I had to swap out for another, which cured the problem.

astra 2d can not be received so no bbc and no freesat.

Sounds unfortunately likely to be the case. Any suggestions as to a universal LNB that's cheap, likely to work with the Echostar AND with Sky (should I ever go back to Sky)?
 
I can confirm some receivers are "allergic" to some types of lnb - Ive had problems on several occasions - different lnbs and different receivers over the years.

An lnb that work well with one receiver just wont work with another for some odd reason.

Unfortunately its just a case of swapping them around until you find a combination that works for you.

Basically, a different make to the one you have.
 
Hello! Newbie here!! I have just stumbled upon this forum because I too am having trouble with the EchoStar HDS-600RS. I used to have Sky, then Humax freesat and now am hoping to migrate to the HDS-600RS. However, I have had trouble from the very start of trying to set this up and getting a decent signal. I have a dual LNB that was installed for the origianl Sky+ setup and worked perfectly when I then purchased a Humax freesat box. The problem is the lack of signal. The HDS-600RS just won't work. I thought I had a didgy box and so returned it to the retailer, but I have just spoken to them and they tell me there is nothing wrong with it. I should get it beck in the next couple of days so will keep you updated with any progress I make.

Thank you for this forum though, because at least there may be a reason and solution to the problem.
