Looking for FW, manuals and PC Software for Sefram 7835

Hello,

I am looking for FW, manuals and PC Software for Sefram 7835.

The files are no longer available on www.sefram.com and www.archive.org does not include them in their snapshots.

The file you linked, which I had found before, costs 50 Euro to download, what a scam!

The FW file is for 7833, 7834 and 7835. But there are two versions: one for s/n <1000 and one for s/n >1000.

I am waiting for two devices to arrive, one has the latest v4.1 installed, the other is on some v2.x. not sure if I will manage to extract the FW from one to flash on the other.

Also, they have at least one different option activated. Will be fun to see if I can activate it on the other.

They should arrive in two weeks.

You didn't state you wanted it for free.

 
Sent Sefram an email, perhaps they are willing to help.

Archive.org does not host a single file from www.sefram.fr, unfortunately.

Anyway, the meters are still on their way and from the pictures I can see that one has the latest v4.1 FW installed. Perhaps it is possible to extract it and flash the other unit (has an older v2.x installed).

Another goal is to try and activate the GPS option and retrofit the GPS receiver module. This is haunting me on several meters I own (Promax and Sefram/Spaun). On those I managed to activate the option but never figured out how to add the GPS module.

They actually sent me the user manual and latest FW update first thing in the morning!

That is some great custoemr service. I am both happy and impressed!

OT slightly Vitor - Thankyou for your report - i'd like to try and find some actual user video reports or demos from actual owners of this device -

Megasat HD 7 Combo​

I like the gui a lot but fear the internal hardware, especially the spectrum capabilities might let it down.

The Megasat HD 7 Combo is essentially a portable combo receiver with built-in touch screen and a battery.

It lacks precision, durability and real measurements, especially in terms of spectrum analyser.

It can be a nice hobby gadget, but don't compare it to a propper field meter.

Download the manual and look for instance at the pictures of the SAT, TV and CATV spectrum: the amplitude is ridiculous!

I have come, in the past, across this kind of chinese designed&produced devices and the worst one made up random spectrum animation to pretend to be realtime. You could disconnect the cable and the spectrum would run happily for another 3-5 seconds!

There is a reason you don't find a suitable Youtube video of this device showing real measurements and spectrum.

Take a look at Prime Digital meters (low cost brand of Rover Instruments) - for a little more money you get a real professional field meter.

Thanks Vitor, my suspicions exactly. I'm more than happy with my HD Promax+ machines but when something turns up that 'looks' a little better than the usual Chinese toys it has to be investigated further.

I have had quite a few chinese field meter and I can tell you that half of them broke by themselfes and without any use: I just made the test report and then occasionally charged and tried them. One is completely dead (I tried to repair it without success), the other has a faulty keyboard, others have failed batteries and so on.

Opposed to that I meanwhile own 4 or 5 Satlook Digital NIT, 2 Megalook and 1 Combolook. All purchased second hand from eBay and all work absolutely fine (one of the Megalook did have a defect and I had to replace a Phillips TV IC). The whole built quality is of a different kind.

But more importantly: the chinese meters will give you relative measurements, while the professional field meter provide you with calibrated absolute measurements. For example: you get the signal level in dBuV instead of just a dB value, which does not compare to any other meter.
Your Promax HD Ranger is top quality and you would be disappointed by any of the cheap devices.

For hobby and DX, the best add-on to a field meter is a CrazyScan compatible TV/CATV/SAT card. Combine this with TSReader and you have all you need for signal analysis - at a fraction of the price.
