Losing Signal with Technomate 1600

Hi all,

Setup:

Technomate 1600 2Ci+ Receiver
Motek sg2100
80cm Dish

I am pointing at Astra and Hotbird and get about 96% signal strength and quality shows 76%. This seems to be all reasonable as the channel picture quality is quite good. I lose the signal at times if there is a little wind or clouds in the sky. I made sure that the dish and motor are well tightened and can not see much movement at this level. I used Hotbird for the initial alignment, which helped me in finding the other satellites without any issues.
Could there be a problem with the LNB or a problem with my Technomate or maybe something i did wrong. I have attached a picture of what the dish setup looks like.
Oh, yes there are also no trees or any other potential obstructions in the path.

I am pointing roughly at 180 Degrees South (when Astra is used)

Just did another test by shaking the dish and it could indeed be the wind. How could i fix this since it has a motor?
I was thinking of mounting some brackets but where to since it has a motor and needs to move?

The problem is the type of mount you are using.

Bin it and fit 12" T&K brackets.
 
From the photo, I would suggest 18 inch bracketry or larger, just to ensure the dish gives similar coverage to the East.
 
sounds good, thanks. I probably also consider to change the LNB (currently 0.3 from Liddle) to a 0.1. Altough not sure if
it would be compatible. I heard that the noise margin is lower than an 0.3 but not sure if it will work with the Technomate.
Any ideas?

Probably no need to change the LNB.

Firstly it won't overcome the transient misalignments caused by an insufficiently rigid mount and secondly the signals you ought to get once you've stabilised the mount should be good enough.

Furthermore, Headline Noise Figures for LNBs are notoriously misleading as they only apply in the "best case" over a small part of Ku band. The only sensible way to compare performance is by practical experiment.
 
thanks mate. I stabilised the dish and fitted another lnb (technomate 0.1), which i had already ordered and it works like a treat.
