[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Apr-02 AT 11:36 AM (GMT)]It would seem that the users of the Magic Module are few and far between la bzr, I certainly am unaware of anyone using one so can't really comment.

Am I to take it from your enquiry that you have one, or are thinking of getting one?

The beta 0.9 firm for the magic cam (www.satkinder.com) is now working with the 5in1 files for fun and the 5 systems.

The latest firmware is Gamma10. CAM and programmer can be purchased from http://www.visoduck.co.uk/html/poleng/ It looks promising as much progress has been made in the firmware development.

Hi Guys ,
Just thought I'd jump in on this link . I was about to buy an Irde*o 5 in 1 CAM but I came across this item while browsing . I'm no CAM expert but as I´m in Spain the addition of SEC*2 and Nagravis*on would make it worth my while . I tried your link verywiseguy but it goes nowhere. I found one in the UK under the name Global CAM . The guy tried to say that it was different from the magic module but it has the same specs so I presume it's the same . He wanted 190 pounds for it but I´m sure it must be available cheaper .
Does anyone know a cheaper place it buy it from ??
Thanks
Paul

Hi ,
I posted on this thread previously but my message didn't appear . Anyway , not to worry . I was just about to buy a Irdeto 5 in 1 CAM when I came across this Magic Modul thing . It says it works on all systems . It seems to be pretty new on the market and there doesn't seem to be many people using it yet but my question is pretty simple . Would I be better off spending a little more and buying this than the 5 in 1 . My main interest is Seca2 and Nagravision .
Thanks in Advance
Paul

Hi Jimmi ,
Thanks for the info and links . This is all quite new to me . I've ordered one of these CAMs and while I'm waiting for it to arrive can you tell me how exactly (in idiots terms) you program it . Most of the links I've found have been translated from Italian into English and I really don't want to fry the card or receiver . I'm using a Strong 4375 .
Thanks in advance.

Though new to the conditional access satellite business, I am quite good with computers. I have been carefully investigating various options for 5 in 1 access for about a month.
The main drawback, from my POW, of both Irdeto 1 flashable CAMS (P/N 900264 and 900440) is that patching them with new software could yield unpredictable results and destroy the operational capability of these modules. This is quite high financial risk, given the costs of these modules (min 150 Euro + shipping if you are lucky, min £160 in the UK). Additionally, with TV providers switching to versions 2 of their coding systems (Irdeto 2, Seca 2, Viacess 2 etc.) the old Irdeto Allcam modules could one day render to be useless.
The Magic Module, on the contrary, has been designed to be flashed as many times as necessary. The current software ("Gamma12", http://magic.das-schmeckt.com/) already supports Irdeto 2 and Seca 2, though, as you know, no free viewing is yet available on these systems. I have ordered the Module bundled with its progammer for 200 Euro (£125) from the guy in Germany (Jurgen Turing, http://shop3.webmailer.de/cgi-bin/ePages.filereader?3ce105f9010b7fe22719ac172c25063e+DE/catalogs/97313)

I will update the forum on my progress when I receive the module.
Regards, N.

Received the Module from Herr Turing (see my previous post) in no time - highly recommended. Had some initialisation problems in Echostar AD3000IPVA ("Module inserted, initialising..." forever). However, traced the problem down to the receiver not the module (did not initialise an operational Aston Seca CAM v.1.05 either). All problems resolved with the software upgrade from v.700 to v.800, still wondering what it was...

Used a laptop to load the most recent firmware TetraCrypt 1.0 into the Module (one requires a driver file magic.inf, magicloader.exe and MM programmer with serial cable to do this). The module was recognised in a receiver as Tetracrypt. Tried the module with Seca GW - worked fine, then made a Fun-card from Satkoos Fun 5-in-1 update dated 18/05/02, and it works fine.
There does not seem to be noticeable pixelation or major delay.

Bottom line - it works and does it rather well! Good value for money compared to Irdeto AllCam, 2 years warranty.

Hope this helps with your decision making process.

Am i right in believing that the only way to flash a firmware onto a cam such as the magic module is to use a laptop computer? Does anyone know of any other way of doing this.

I believe that the magic module comes with a season interface which can be used to flash it, so all you need is a COM port.

Starman,

Rolf is correct - any computer with a COM port could be used for flashing the Magic Module. However, a source of power for the module is required as well. This may be either a PCMCIA slot in the laptop computer or, alternatively, a receiver with a CI slot.

The main Magic module web site (http://magic.das-schmeckt.com/) describes how to flash the Module using a Humax receiver and a PC.

BTW, I am glad, I have not flashed to the PENTAcrypt yet, as new release, Pentacrypt v.1.01 has just been made available for download (bug fixes). I am still staying with TETRA.

Does anyone know, whether there are keys for Conax anywhere?

Regards

Nickolai :-)

Hi, everyone

Just found an extremely informative place for Magic Module users or would-be buyers

http://mm.servebeer.com/

I found lots of useful information there, specifically on module compatibility with various receivers/ TV providers.

Enjoy!

hi nickolai :)
its a good forum specifically for the magic module, has all the software, tools etc (apart from keys) to use the cam.
Does not unfortunately allow posting of any websites of where to buy the magic module except by there own sponsors, apart from that though it has great promise.
