He thinks that the alloy used in the casing for the Moteck is a stronger alloy than was used in the Jaeger 1224.
If that's true then the Jaeger casing must be truly awful. I've drilled both the CM plate and the casing of my Motek and even with new bits it was catching like mad as chunks of alloy were ripping off both items.
Then of course there was this incident.
Poor design contributed to this with the single fixing point on one corner allowing for maximum rotational stress in strong wind. Luckily it was still under guarantee and after a few tedious exchanges I got a replacement after paying for the broken one to be sent back. I kept the original elevation bolt and used this along with some additional bracketry to add another fixing point onto the casing at the other rear corner. So far, it's stood up to windier conditions than were experienced the night it broke.
Best of luck getting that top plate off, unless it was copper slipped during installation. I will say in its defence that it hits the correct position every time so as long as precautionary measures are taken on installation it's not too bad a motor if you're an anorak, I probably wouldn't sell one to a paying customer!
