There is major auroral activity taking place atm - its being reported all of the Uk as far south as Pembrokeshire & Somerset.

And of course it bloody cloudy here!

Light pollution have a major say in seeing any of this?

Well folks in Glasgow have reported seeing it - Ive been outside for half an hour or so, and theres a definite green glow to the north but to the naked eye theres none of the spectacular spikes & curtains you see in the photos.

Was semi-clear yesterday but saw nothing towards the north. No doubt @timo_w2s will be along shortly with his spectacular photos he took on his Nokia 6310...

Hehe, sorry no. Saw a bit on one of the Helsinki webcams but I'm in the UK at the moment and didn't bother looking outside.

Unfortunately it is the old story you have to be in the right place at the right time

Never seen them and am unlikely to living where I live :( . On the flip side, we have a decent summer every year without fail :)

Skies certainly weren't clear enough last night to see anything ..but maybe tonight ?
Not that I have a view North ..low enough on the horizon..but I live in hope..
One day Wodney ......one day ...

Somebody smoking that funny stuff or eating the wrong type of mushrooms??? (the ones that grow on top of the cow paddy's)

The photon flux has been flat as a board for the last few days, and we haven't see a pop big enough on the GOES satellites to make the solar wind act up enough to push the auroras further down South (or further up North depending where you live) then normal.

They might be playing with the HAARP transmitters again and your seeing the after effects.

For auroras to be seen easily as far south as North Wales here there has to have been some pretty spectacular solar activity. Can't explain your finding Terry.

As per usual, always cr@p weather conditions with major celestial events @ my location. one thing certain in 22 days time no visible sun until 10. feb

Regards

We might be short of photons but we are auroral storm watch levels again just at the moment.

Aurora Borealis Forecast. Everything You Need to know.

Levels need to get a bit more exciting before I bother getting cold again though :D

The cloud cover here is once again substantial ...so I doubt I'll see anything as per..
No surprise there then..
Good luck watching the skies tonight for those fortunate enough to actually get some clarity.

Just went out for a half hour, Clear skies but didn't see anything but orange glows! BAH

Not a wasted cold trip though, got a nice photo of the dish farm
