Many of my homebrew Ka feeds have odd and non uniform mounts and collars ..
This makes the precise positioning needed for Ka very difficult as they cant be laterally adjusted for optimum signal..
Well today I got lucky and found a polythene screw top bottle in my mums medicine cabinet ...which looked like it might be right.
I nicked it and checked with the callipers ..yep 39.8 mm diameter.
Perfik..
I wish I could find some more of these ...
So called 40mm upvc waste pipe is actually 41mm and thus too wide..
Anyway ..
I have one feed ready to pot up with liquid plastic ..just as soon as the epoxy resin seal has hardened completely..
Here are a few before pics ..
You'll get the idea..
I'll post another when completed.

Looks good VS, yet another practical solution.

On the subject of making others, did you know there are two types of upvc (abs) waste pipe, glue weld joints and push fit each being dimensioned differently, despite there being British Standards to cover them. Each manufacturer makes their own dimensioned pipes. The only reason I know this is because I am coming to the end of a major bathroom project and the waste pipes I put in originally were 40mm Marley pushfit, knowing what I had and what I could re-use I bought accordingly. Nothing at all fitted together between the old and the new yet both state 40mm pushfit as the stockist now supplies Floplast abs so I had to buy everything completely from scratch.

Good info mate ..and if you have any offcuts ..dont chuck 'em..
the size required is approx 38mm OD plus or minus a mm ..
LCD display callipers make this measurement so easy and accurate..

Now I need a long piece to mod the SL3s custom feed ..as seen in the photo ;)

Waterproofing your F connectors would be a good idea too :p

I take it you're referring to the SL3 CJ ?
only the one at the top is actually connected internally ...the bottom 3 are not so not important ..
but thanks for reminding me to refit the weather boot to the top connector ..
I'll do it now..

Nice VS. Hope there aren't many future Ka Hi band channels going vertical - doesn't look like you have much room for a 90° turn of the XMW LNB?

Indeed not atm Llew ..but I can always slide the lnbs a bit further apart if need be ..
Such are the advantages of a gibby triple feed bar..

Not tried this yet ..but you'll notice the Hughes Ka feed is oval ..thus I've fitted this on the XMW longest N/S ...my thinking is that this would best suit the dish which is longer than it is wide ..thus illuminate better..
But is this true ?
Better N/S or E/W ?
I could just take it off and try it of course ..but what would your best guess be ?

I suppose it depends on the shape of the dish it was originally intended for. Dish TV?

Always worth experimenting with these feeds VS - something which you are admirably able to do.

New supply of liquid plastic arrived today ..
So feed number 2 ..fresh from the oven so to speak..
This one was previously part of a ka inverto dual ..which was sacrificed some time ago on the alter of 're-purpose' .

Not sure of the price of liquid plastic, but would filler foam be a better - and cheaper - option ?
