As you may know ..I've spent the weekend assembling and fitting a Ku circular lnb (modded SL3) to Christina ..
It did me no good but having fitted it ..I wanted to keep it in the system ...
Who knows ..one day it may prove useful.
Problem ..
I had no more switch spaces left so ..
Time for a re-think..
By using a combination of a 4 way diseqc 1.0 ..to basically controll V boxe/motors and one of my Usals dish/motors (Tom)..and leaving one position (4) ....I could switch away to this position thus disabling motors routed control through the 4 way switch ..allowing any motors controlled via the 8 way diseqc 1.1 switch to function correctly..
By doing this I have freed up position (3) on the diseqc 1.1 switch ..highlighted in the green box ...to connect up one more lnb.
..the Ku circular SL3.
various combinations can now be used of 1.0 and 1.1 either singularly or in combination to shift the wanted motor and dish ..and the required lnb ..
Not fully tested yet ..and I WILL have to make a crib sheet so I know who what which and where ..
But In my head I can't see why this wouldn't function.
Time will tell...

This diagram is somewhat simplified as there is also the band switch (SL3) ..and the 3 smart priority switches in the mix as well..
but these have been left out to simplify ...but tested ok and functional.

One day I'll post the whole system diagram ...
Then you'll see..
That will really hurt your head ..
lol
;)

Oh ..and I'm even considering one more addition
I might try and mount a C band lnb on Carl ..
Problem ..
I have no more feeds ..nor space to connect them ..
I'm therefore considering an old continuous 22khz tone switch outside at the lnbs to get a ka lnb to swap places with the cband lnb ..thus feed sharing on one cable..
Do-able ?
We shall see ..
since neither the ka nor Cband lnb need 22khz ..it might just be viable..

I suppose you engage the 8x1 switch with DiSEqC 1.2 commands?

The passive splitter is of course YUCK.
It's a stub that should cause troubles at certain frequencies, but somehow people get away with it!

No ..actually I send diseqc 1.1 commands to the 8 way ...
the diseqc 1.0 switch will ignore these ..and defaults to position 1 ..hence the need for the dummy location ..
So for example if I want to shift Harry and select his lnb ..
I would send diseqc 1.0 (4) (dummy) Diseqc 1.1 (8) > usals(diseqc 1.3) XXXXXX

C band lnb on Christina to 1 west ..
Diseqc 1.0 (2) Diseqc 1.2 (1) >>>Diseqc 1.1(2)

XMW ka on Carl to 7 west
Diseqc 1.0 (1) > Diseqc 1.2 (72) >> Diseqc 1.1 (6)

I DON'T ever hook lnbs on the outputs of Vboxes ...these are seperated by the switches ..thus allow motor movement and lnb selection independantly..
Otherwise this system would NOT work.

You are right about the passive (no filtering of course just a simple F connector T split) ..but it seems to work ok ..so far ..and allows both switches to receive commands simultaneously..

I see. It's only commands going through the DiSEqC 1.0 switch, no RF.
Then (again theoretically), it would be good to insert somehow a choke coil at the T-split, in series towards the 1.0 switch. A few ferrite beads maybe.

Sadly yes there is signal on one channel of the diseqc 1.0 switch ie channel 3 ...
It would be better if it were control signal only ..but one cant have everything .
If Gecen/Amiko/Opticum ever produce a diseqc 1.1 (16 way) switch that will solve all my problems ..but as yet only 8 port switches available.

What I meant was, the choke should suppress the IF frequencies in the leg to the 1.0 switch.
Enough to prevent the leg to act as a stub, or let external IF frequencies get into the coax.

I imagine you drilling away the isolation at one side of the T-splitter, then inserting small ferrite beads instead, maybe glueing them as well. That would be a typical VS activity. :D
