I think we're at cross purposes here. You use fun cards to upgrade the software version of the MR when an upgrade appears (eg from V1.07 to V1.08). The MR performs CAM and viewing card emulation without the need to insert a card, you change the keys manually.
Having said that, the Nagra encryption on Pols*t, for example, autoupdates on V1.08. You can, of course, program a Fun card for key changes if you're too lazy to do the changes manually but there's a trade off - not all channels will open with Fun only. On the MR 1.08, you can use a titanium card without losing any of the other channels ie inserting the tit card doesn't disable the basic MR emulation (which did happen on previous versions).
I'm getting myself in all sorts of knots here and making myself clear as mud, no doubt. Probably the best thing to do is to get one and play with it - you'll see what I mean and I don't think you'll regret it.
