Im interested in getting a matrix reloaded cam and according to a website I've been on (www.pulsat.com) it says that the cam comes preloaded with the software needed to de-scramble v*a**es ir*e*o and so on and that I can just update it through a funcard, and never need to update the software by connecting it to my pc?? is this true??

The Matrix Reloaded can be updated with 3-Fun 5 cards, 2-fun 6 cards.
So if you have the fun cards and a fun card programmer you are set.

The Matrix can also be upgraded thru the PCMCIA slot on a laptop, or a cas or a cas 2 interface. The cas interfaces allow you to program if there is a card fault on the Matrix. Check out cas and cas 2 to see if you think you might need one.

The 1.08 update required four Fun 5s. You can, of course, just use two and re-program them ie erase file1 and write file3 when file 2 is loading. Some systems are a bit "iffy" with Fun cards, though. You can try Fun6s and if they fail to load, you can always program them as Fun 5s (smaller files); this is selectable on the Infinity programmer which is excellent and easy to use - best to get the Phoenix version so that you can can program a titanium card which you will probably want to do next, especially if you receive 1W (or further in the future, who knows....).

Thanks for that Norm, so if I wanted to receive channels from 19.2e and 13e I could just load the matrix cam up with the necessary and get a fun card with the right codes to unscramble the channels??

I think we're at cross purposes here. You use fun cards to upgrade the software version of the MR when an upgrade appears (eg from V1.07 to V1.08). The MR performs CAM and viewing card emulation without the need to insert a card, you change the keys manually.

Having said that, the Nagra encryption on Pols*t, for example, autoupdates on V1.08. You can, of course, program a Fun card for key changes if you're too lazy to do the changes manually but there's a trade off - not all channels will open with Fun only. On the MR 1.08, you can use a titanium card without losing any of the other channels ie inserting the tit card doesn't disable the basic MR emulation (which did happen on previous versions).

I'm getting myself in all sorts of knots here and making myself clear as mud, no doubt. Probably the best thing to do is to get one and play with it - you'll see what I mean and I don't think you'll regret it.

So from what i can gather, the mr cam acts as a decoder and a viewing card??
And to update the cam once the codes have changed i just input the new codes manually? would i do that through the receiver? Thanks for info mate.

Yes, input the keys using the receiver remote control. Have a look at the "How To" at the top of this section which explains it all in some detail. You can't really make a mess of it because, if you do put the wrong keys in the wrong place, there is an option to set a default key which returns the CAM to the default firmware (ie how you received it).
