Maximum e85 dish signal issues

My Satellite Setup
Satellite: Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2D at 28.2°E
Antenna: Offset antenna 72x65 cm with single LNB
Receiver: Dreambox 500HD
My Location
Oslo, Norway
I have installed maximum E85 dish _http://www.kjaerulff1.com/en-gb/p/479_maximume-85multifocus48dish with these satellites 28.2E, 13E, 4.8E, 0.8W with 13E as the center LNB. All except 28.2E have good signal strength. With this setup I have lost signal to weak channels on 28.2E like 11.875.500H but 11.836.500H has very good signal strength. What is the reason for bad signal when both the frequency are so close.

When I use the center LNB for 28.2E then I get all the channels.

Is there any way to solve this? I could live without 13E if I need to.

The two frequencies you mention are on different beams, one on 2B south, the other on 2A north. That is the reason why. Losing 13E won't help you,as it's in the middle of your range, you need to either lose 0.8W or 4.8E and bias the dish more eastward, and put up another dish for those, or put up another for 28E.


Also worth checking your 28E LNB for Skew, and focal point. Using a long LNB like the Inverto black ultra may help, as it can be moved in and out a lot more.
 
The answer is in the transmitted beams 11.875.500H is on 2A south, the 11.836.500H is 2A north beam
 
Thx for the info. I am already using Inverto black ultra. I can also rotate the dish clockwise or anticlock, Will that help? I have used satfinder in dreambox to adjust the dish so I dont know if the elevation is correct. I can also slide the LNB sideways, will that help?
 
If you have not already got the 28E lnb in the best position, yes sliding it to the best position may help.
 
I can also rotate the entire dish. What is the purpose of that?
 
It changes the Skew. Rather than changing the skew of the focal lnb the whole dish gets skewed instead. I think the idea is that the dish gain in both horizontally and vertically is the same. I would presume that with a multi-focus dish that the dish would be skewed to match the central satellite (don't know though as never fitted one that allows that)

On a conventional multi-LNB set-up you skew the multi-bracket to follow the arc. With a "multi-focus" dish you skew the dish (which is more efficient,because a multi-focus dish is spherical, not paraboloid from top to bottom and you want that lined up properly with your arc).

For your location, try skewing the whole dish 4.25º so that the east end is lower than the west. Then set up 19.2ºE as the central satellite. Once you get 19.2ºE spot on add an LNB for 28ºE and see if the transponders you want are there. Adjust the dish skew for strongest signal on 19ºE and 28ºE. Signal strength on 19ºE shouldn't change when you skew the dish but strength on 28ºE will. Once you get that perfect move the LNB you had at 19ºE along to 13ºE (it was just at 19ºE for testing) and then add your other 2 LNBs for 4.8ºE and 0.8ºW.
 
Thx for the info. My location is Lat 59.9266° and Lon 10.8698°. So I have to rotate it 4.25º anti clockwise. Should I have move the dish so the center LNB points to 19.2E or keep it pointed to 13E as now. You said add 19.2E at center and add an LNB for 28E, so should I add the 28E at its right most position like now or add it somewhere else? At present I have all 4 LNB except 19.2E mounted. Using the satfinder on dreambox is bit tricky as the TV is 10m away from the dish. Should I buy a cheap sat finder from ebay like "Satlook Lite Emitor" or "SATLINK WS6908"
 
If you set 19ºE as your central satellite that give you a bit of bias towards 28ºE where the dish is a bit more efficient. 4.25º corresponds to 19.2ºE being the central satellite. If you leave the dish with 13ºE as the central satellite you need to skew the dish 1.2º. If you don't skew the dish your 28ºE LNB will be aligned on the wrong elevation.

Personally I like Satlook meters so I'd recommend the Lite for a cheap option. It takes a while to learn how to get the best out of a new meter but it's so much better than working blind. The other option is stream the satfinder from the Dreambox to your laptop. I've never done this because I have a meter but I know Hakon uses this method.

So when I set 19E as central satellite I move the dish towards 19E? The degrees are divided into units of 0.5 deg so how come I can achieve 1.2º correctly?

You put an LNB central, right at the end of the LNB arm (not to the left or right), and use that to align the dish on 19.2ºE. In that configuration you skew the dish 4.25º.

I use my digital level to get a starting point, but as mentioned in post #8 you perfect your dish skew based on signal reception.
 
I was looking for sat finder and I came across sat finder with spectrum analyzer. In what way spectrum analyzer sat finder is better than normail ones?

You can identify a satellite without getting digital lock, i.e. when the dish isn't fully aligned.

So If I understood it correctly I first add a LNB at 13ºE mark and point the dish to 19.2ºE. After I get the strongest signal add another LNB at 28.2ºE mark. Skew the whole dish by 4.25º to left. After that add
4.8ºE and 0.8ºW at their predesigned mark and use the center LNB for 13ºE.
 
Skew the dish 4.25º as above. Put an LNB dead centre, directly at the end of the LNB arm. Align that LNB on 19ºE. Now do a test with another LNB to see if your 28ºE reception is good enough. If it is ok just add the other LNBs wherever you want them. If reception isn't good enough you are going to need to think about bringing 28ºE even closer to centre.
