MDS is a common acronym unfortunately. Its most common usage in a satellite/digital-tv context is for "Multipoint Distribution Systems" - a method of distributing signal, not of encrypting them.
In this particular case, the platform in question is TARBS (Television and Radio Broadcasting Services). They distribute their signals via satellite but the subscriber needs a specific Tarbs decoder. That decoder is manufactured by Mentor Data Systems. Aha! It is a bespoke decoder with a bespoke encryption system. So presumably this is what the "MDS" at lyngsat is referring to.
