Inspired by John & others' work here and this, from qwer,

I am looking at ways of creating a mechanical polar rotor for the 1.5m IRTE. I've got the Pololu - Micro Maestro 6-Channel USB Servo Controller (Assembled) and ordered some other bits on John's advice. I'm trying to avoid replacing the tripod centre but maybe I'll have to. I have a 1.2m IRTE, in bits that I can practice on before attacking the 1.5 but I'd rather not destroy either.

As it is, the feed rotates if the screws holding the collar are released but I need a better bearing (see diagram). I thought of using PTFE sheets, on the moving faces, but I'm looking for something that will last. It would be nice to be able to set the focus but that is probably a step too far for a novice mech bodger.

I was lucky to pick up an SMW PLL system at a good price but it has the problem of needing some high quality, flexible, cables to be able to cope with rotation. New, they will cost more than I paid for the LNA/BDC.
