Microsoft has bought the Internet phone service Skype. Microsoft has paid $8.5bn (£5.2bn) for Skype, making it their largest acquisition.

Many analysts believe that they have overpaid for Skype but this is really just another example of Microsoft's Embrace and Extend philosophy.

I hate Micro$haft's incessant need to buy out the competition, Skype being a leading competitor to their Live Messenger, might aswell cut off the USB cables to our Skype phones and adaptors now, cos when M$ are done with it, it's not going to be the same... 'O'-red
