Ross, are there ANY "local" TV channels that have been successful since their launch? Seems to me like a massive failure...

FRom the Guardian reports Ive been having a look at the STV ones dont seem to be doing too badly, and in the smaller English towns there seems to be a reasonable audience.

I still think most of them will end up

a) closing OR

b) amalgamating into a quasi national "local" mutiplex so they can sell more advertising

No doubt some of them will limp along with ever diminishing audiences before the backers throw the towel in - there is no real demand for local tv in the UK - we have seen that already with Manchester, Solent TV & any others that were on satellite in recent years - they all closed.

I heard they where going to show Crossroads. I used to watch it with my mum as a young child, not so much out of choice really but because it was on in the background...

Apparently theres a possibility of some old Tiswas episodes getting a rerun too

(And theres a lot of the shows missing so if you have any on video tape please let me know as I know a man who would be very pleased to copy the tapes, for return to the archives.)

Its about 90% missing from the archives!

Yes, didn't they make a re-make in the late 90s or something? Judging from the screenshot this looks more like the original going by the moustache and picture quality (or is it Analoguesat's dodgy RF link? ;)).

Edit: Oh can't be RF if it's a webstream, never mind. :-doh

.....on the Sutton Coldfield & Brierley Hill transmitters.

Born and bred in Sutton Coldfield and i purchased my first property overlooking the Pype Hayes golf course for some 2000 english pounds and Crossroads was based and recorded in the nearby ( 300m) Penns Hall Hotel......happy days !

Wow...long time ago!

My (b) prediction is coming true. A comment from fm a516 on a DS thread says some of the local tv channels have banded together under the Local TV Network banner so they can sell national advertising

Code:
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=77781712&postcount=41

Its the start of close cooperation between the channels.

I wonder if it will lead to big centre coming to satellite?

Very unlikely - its just not worth the extra transmission costs for the tiny channels for the handful of extra in area viewers it would bring in.

Agreed but some are still on satellite.
With big centre being Birmingham it serves a good chunk of population.
