Shelves of them ready to go in Sainsbury's this week. Ahead of last year's appearance by three weeks.

If they had left it for a more realistic time - perhaps around November - it would leave space in their HGV's for more needed stuff to fill their empty shelves :(

In my store, next to the hot cross buns (of course).

Our local drinking establishment has had mince pies as one of their dessert options all year round.

From memory it has nothing to do with Christmas/Thanksgiving (hijacked in later years - turned sweet by the Victorians ?) but goes back to medieval times as a way of preserving calorie laden meat and fat in times of hardship, where the pie crust becomes the container.
