Mobile Caller ID

I bought a mobile phone many years ago and got my mobile number. I asked to hide my caller ID at the time.
I used the phone only for emergencies "On the Go" subscription to call a taxi for example while I am on the train so it would wait when I arrive at my destination.
Now I want my caller ID to be visible. I tried to make changes from the phone settings but it didn't work because when I call my landline number, I don't see my number and shows "Private Caller".
Then I had a chat with the mobile company, and they told me to try
* <31> # <phone number to call> <phone icon>
Tried that and no joy.
Also tried * <31> * <phone number to call> <phone icon> but no luck
I think the original request to hide caller ID is burnt into the SIM and nothing can help.
I don't mind changing the mobile number if this is the only solution, but I hope I won't need to go to this extreme.
Any ideas what else I can try?

Not well known now as it became EE a few years ago, to be absolutely honest I think you should try a few different google searches as there are an awful lot of different commands for permanent and temporary witheld numbers and these vary from country to country and network to network, it seems to be the most disorganised system one could possibly create.

Looking at wiki I see the command below but nothing to open up a permanently blocked id
  • Israel: *43 (landlines) or #31# (most cell phone companies)
Below gives another couple being *82 or *31 before the number. so perhaps try the second one without the # at the end
Code:

Agreed .... # 31 # is most likely.

Looking at the first Post, this is similar to what he was told, but similar doesn't cut it!

I think * 31 # unblocks for a single call, not all.

Thanks a lot for your time.
Looks like it is hidden permanently, but I could be wrong.
I think I will take my mobile to Partner service center next week in a mall and let them fiddle with it.
If they tell me I need to change the mobile number, I can do it on the spot and put the new SIM and test it there.

Probably best and I hope you do not get a trainee, back up any data on your sim before going;)

If it's really a sim problem, simply ask them to send a replacement sim? (for your exsisting nr of course), as maybe they would agree sim has some kind of defect, and should provide a free one. If paid, don't know the price in your country, doesn't cost much here.

If they tell me I need to change the phone number, I will just cancel the contract and sign up with a cheaper provider.
I hardly use the service and I pay about 10 Pounds a month.
The best option for me is "On the Go" but no company has this option. Only monthly subscription.

No. SIM is OK. Got a new one few months ago, but I suspect it got the DNA from the initial contract.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Is there a user forum for Partner as those sometimes provide some answers?

Just looked at what the mobile companies offer these days.
There are three companies that offer a light package for about 2 Pounds a month.
- 100 calls
- SMS included
- 100 MB browsing.
SIM + Connection charges about 10 Pounds
Partner doesn't have such a package, so it looks like I am going to cancel my subscription with them, as I hardly use the mobile.
This is as near I can get to the non existing "On the Go" package which has been discontinued.
How fast can I use up the 100 MB browsing do you think?

According to a quick Interweb search, Browsing consumes 4MB per minute.

You do the math (s) ;)

I finally had the chance to go to the mobile company support center.
It was crowded, noisy and the people working there seemed to enjoy talking to each other instead of helping customers efficiently.
When it was my turn, I asked the assistant to get rid of the hidden caller ID.
It took her about 15 minutes to do the job and I could see my number on her mobile. So that was great.
But only this morning I had problem getting an important SMS from my bank and I asked her to sort this out.
She tried and then told me the problem is with your phone. You can leave it with us and it will cost you about 30 Pounds.
I refused and left. Then asked a friend to send me SMS and I got his message.
Then tried the bank again to send me a message but I didn't get it.
I am really p***ed o** with these small gadgets. It is as if I don't exist unless I have a mobile number.
My bank wouldn't let me get into my account without a mobile number.
Has the world gone crazy or what?
I wasted the whole day trying to sort out these little problems and now it looks like I might need to buy a new mobile.
There is no way I am going to pay them 30 Pounds for a problem most probably caused by them

My mobile is Samsung S III I hardly use it only in case of emergencies and now they tell me I have a problem with it?
Would it help if I do a software update or reinstall? After all the Message App for SMS is part of the Android
Anybody had a similar problem?
Thanks.

It might be worth doing a full reset on it which will put it back to factory defaults.
