Modding a inverto kaku ?

I was so lucky to "find" a second Inverto KaKu lnb .
Opened it to see if its possible to change the band like I did at a lnb for EsHail by changing the X-tal .
Unfortunality it seems the 25.000 X-tal is for the Ku section and the Ka section is a DRO type .

Do you feel brave Wim and dig down to below the pcb to expose what's going on there - it's unexplored land up to now i think :p.
I saw a recent Inverto Ad the other week that still shows the Ka/Ku lnbf being advertised so i thought i would drop a line to support to see if there had been any change in the supply - unfortunately not.

What is stopping you from adjusting the oscillator frequency with the right allen key ?

Wim, if you do take out the board use some of that solder sucking braid for the centre F connector pins that are soldered to the board.

I have done that John, just basically a circuit board attached to the casing of the LNB. All the electronics is just on that one circuit board. I was repairing some slight water ingress on my spare.

Dont worry , I will as soon as my TBS card has arrived and installed .

As CH suggests, there may be some possibility to tweak the DRO screw to adjust the frequency (within the boundary of the DRO's excitation by the oscillator), but it depends what Band either side of Band D you want to try.
Perhaps better to experiment by changing the DRO puck.

I did a look inside atthe LNB's components here -

More pics of the Ka probes layout in posts #378 and #380 in the "New Inverto KaKu LNB" thread.

did that yesterday at 16º E

Testing effect changing mechanical DRO setting on Inverto Ka/Ku lnb .
Receiving same Channel with changed freq designation

org. freq.---1/2 turn ccw---1 turn ccw--->1 turn ccw---1/2 turn cw---1 turn cw---1½ turn cw--->1½ turn cw
21545------------------------------------------------------- 21500
21572 ----------21596--------21608------- no effect------21527-------21448------21280-----------no effect
21576 ----------21600--------21612------- no effect------21531-------21452------21284-----------no effect

Off topic :
Since I use a separate Ku lnb I replaced the 25.000 X-tal in the Ku part for a 24.000 , now receiving A71A from EsHail at 10.489 H (lof 9.360)

I finally got on Friday to have a go at adjusting myself, the DROs on the three LNBs can alter the Ku frequency by up to around 150MHz but in reality there is little more than 100MHz before strange things occur with the linear output across the frequency range.
Apologies for suggesting this as a route.

I'm sure that when I last looked at tuning a DRO (which was some 15 years ago, (on MTI dual band stuff - WR75 flanged) the span was far greater. Perhaps the need for improved stability in the age of the Universal type has narrowed down the tolerances.
