Hi everyone

I have a Sony Bravia HD TV and it has only 1 HDMI input. This input I currently use for Sky HD. Everything is working great.

However I now want to purchase a DVD player. The DVD player will require an HDMI input, but I only have 1.

My thoughts are that I can probably buy some sort of "piggy back" device to connect both HDMI devices to.

But if this is so, how does the TV know which device to connect to?

Would it be that it connects to either device that is switched on?

I am used to SCSI where I pop a DVD in and it takes over and just plays. In the past I haven't had to worry about swithing the Sky box off.

All help is appreciated

I can only assume that an HDMI switch will meet your needs, I am not recommending I just googled to see if there was such a thing

HDMI switcher

For example

Edit: too slow, lol

Hi Thomas87,

Maplin has a 4 way Switch as in (Topper) thread.
It has a Remote. It is also Auto sensing. It has Optical Out.

BF...

With all these new services perhaps it is time to buy an AV amp to get the best sound from the new devices??

This would solve your HDMI problem as well :)

Another option dependant on your sky HD box model and tv of course,

It may be possible to connect the sky hd box via component leads and the dvd via hdmi, (although the quality is supposidly not as clear via component compared to HDMI, i happly had mine connected in this manner and could see no difference in picture quality)

I bought a little three way HDMI switch for £12 from ebay and works fine with my kit. You have to make sure that any AV amp is HDCP compliant, otherwise your HD channels will not show.:)

Hello!
i also use this kind of hdmi swticher with 4 ports!
how about, the quality of cheap hdmi cables, are the a big diffrence, when everthing is transmitted digital, why then we should spend more money,in the cable?
