hello this is my setup, the dish is pointing at 16e atm

dish.JPG

Iv bought a Moteck SG2100A motor for it and should be receiving it some time this week. Im worried that the Dish could be to big for the dish and as you can see from the pic it's not really sheltered. Should i be worried that the motor may not do its job?

That looks a bit like a TD110 to me.

I had one on a Moteck up on an exposed wall and although it worked, the windage was worrying.

It's now on another Motor on a Patio Stand.

The alleged 1.2m capability of these Motors depends a great deal on dish weight and weather exposure, as well as size.

The TD110 is very heavy indeed.

Edit: Can I ask why you haven't routed your cable through the LNB arm as opposed to under it?

It's not a 1.2m dish, but a 1.1m dish.

It'll work, but I shouldn't necessarily bank upon a long and healthy life.

Do take care when mounting the dish on the motor stub as the dish is inclined to twist off square a bit when you tighten the clamps.

It's a 3ft high * 2" diameter pole with a 10" square base mounted on a standard concrete paving slab.

I've got a piccy somewhere, if you give me a minute or two ............

Yes, it works very well indeed.

The hardest part of the job was drilling through the slab, but then I don't have access to a massive range of tools.

tivu

Would you always recommend routing the cable through the offset arm?? I just never thought of it.
Thanks
Nigel

No, not necessarily!

I'm just manically neat and there is access for cabling, so I used it.

If you look closely at the earlier pic, you can see just a very short bit of exposed cable forming a tight little drip-loop between the LNB connection and the access port in the LNB arm,

Edit: Actually you can't ........... I'll Post another pic in a mo.

Tivu that looks very neat, and quite sheltered. What sort of arc do you get from it.
As for headman it would help greatly if you can park the dish when not in use or when high winds are forecast so it's edge on to the wind.

Thanks tivu
I take your point, it is certainly a neat job.

Headman..I hope all goes well with the motor. There's loads of help on here, if you need it.

I see from your post you are located in Ireland and it looks quite rural so you must have plenty of clearance space for a ground mount.I have the TD110 (1.1m) mounted on a Technomate diseqc motor but I have the rear wall as shelter. There is no way I would mount this dish plus motor in such an exposed location. With the winds we are getting these days the dish would act as sail and would eventually lever your pole and brackets from what looks like a shed wall or lean to and possibly damage it.I can manage to park my dish if we get easterly or westerly winds which minimises the load factor on the face of the dish.

Well the arc is limited - I have a small rear garden much affected by hedges, trees etc.

My 80cm dish is motorised as well and mounted on the rear wall - that gets most of my viewing and extends from 39E to 58W.

But in order to get Feed and stuff like BADR4, which the smaller dish doesn't achieve, and Turksat which is out of the arc as seen from the wall-mount, I came up with this 1.1m Patio Mounted system to "fill in the gaps".

Trouble is, the self-same trees etc. mean I can only get segments of the arc and they differ depending upon exactly where I place the slab!

ie I make use of the fact that it is "portable" (requires two to move!!) and occasionally relocate it depending upon what takes my fancy.

Dig hole about a foot round or square and two to three feet deep.

Obtain Scaffold Pole or similar.

Place pole in hole and fix with lashings of concrete, stopping a few inches short of the surface.

Guy or find other clever means of keeping pole vertical while concrete sets.

Finally, turf the void.

headman, visit one of your local abandoned building sites, bound to be one near you.You have all the necessary materials you will require to erect a ground mounted dish. The owners have long since fled the country and have left behind some beautiful material just perfect for the job.Alternatively, use a large paving slab bought in your local builders and providers, carefully remove the same size in lawn, lay a mortar bed and the slab on top and you have a ready made concrete base.

thanks Tivu & petediscrete for the replies, just 1 quick question, you know the pole in the pic, would that be good enough to hold the dish in the ground ?
