Hi,

The motor on my Fibo 1.2 has started making a loud squeaky noise and it has started to get a big annoying...

The strange thing is when it is hot outside it doesn't make any of that noise...

It started with the dish making the noise when it moved from 42E till about 13E and then it stopped. But there was no noise when it moved all the way to 42E.

Now it's making the noise even if I move it one count via the remote and in either direction...

Any ideas?

Didn't really get a chance to buy WD40 and last week it was making a lot of noise even when you moved one count left or right...

I went upstairs and got my wife to move the dish while I was inspecting where the noise was coming from...

I removed the complete motor assembly (luckily this mount allows you do that without messing with the alignment of the dish) and got my wife to move the motor and I noticed the noise was coming from the motor..

I have put in a little bit of engine oil on the gears and that have reduced the noise a bit... This weekend I am going to take the motor assembly out and dismantle it and clean all the gears..

Btw where do you get the while coloured lubricant (grease ?)?

Regards

How old is the Motor?

Cleaning and Re-greasing might work, but if it were me I'd be saving up another £35 or so to replace it. The Motor, that is, not the Wife. Nothing you can do to stop screeching and whining from there, I'm afraid.

The white grease is a water resistant grease, silicon grease is also good. You can probably get a small quantity of suitable waterproof grease from a bike shop/Halfords as used on headsets etc. Also from same source some fling resistant chain oil is good for the gears and bearings, clingy oil helps with the gear noise.
It is likely to be the bearings that are sqeaking not the gears, most likely the main 8mm shaft that has the nylon pinion mounted on it as dries up through being exposed to the elements. The worm gear has adjustment for end float which if set up too tightly can sqeak a bit.
If the motor is running OK the rest is quite easy to overhaul. :-righton

I do have some spares
