Motor/Rotor Problemo

My Satellite Setup
Moterk 2100A motor on Cyfra+ 80cm dish,45'E-37.5W Technomate 6800 HD receiver(Normal).
Windows 7 and Linux.
My Location
Buckinghamshire(H.Wyc)
I have a moteck motor 2100a and doesnt not respond when i change the satellite. it works fine on hotbird 13 but has problems on the others. I used to get channels between 16E to 18W. I wud be lucky to get 0.8W... can anyone suggest some ideas fellow enthusiats please??
 
When you say problems, is the motor moving. Also are you using USALS or DiSEqC 1.2 for positioning?
 
Check the F connectors .

Even if they appear secure, take them apart and check for moisture ingress into the cable.

Last ditch event is to reset the Motor using an unbent paper clip in the access hole under the body.
 
I will check the connections.. I use USALS and my location coordinates r 51.6N and -0.7758W the box gives me the 000.0 Longitude option. Perhaps i am not putting it right. sometimes i use diseqc control but in very exceptional circumstances.
 
You may be slightly off the arc ie. the dish may have moved. Check you have the coordinates correctly entered and send the motor to your reference satellite 1W and see.
 
My experience with the 2100 is that sometimes it will USALS and sometimes it won't. It does work 100% of time with Diseqc 1.2 and is a good motor for that.

What I do is set it to USALS and go to desired Sat position. Then switch to Diseqc 1.2 and go a little east or west til I peak the signal and save that. Works everytime then.

If you look at the box it came in it specs. Diseqc 1.2 not USLALS.

After all USALS is proprietary software to Stabb and was not licensed to motor manufacturers.
 
ok will start using DiSeqC 1.2... whats the major difference between the 2 options(usals n diseqc)
 
Not had any problems with the Moteck's not doing USALS apart from when the connections are dodgy.

The basic difference between diseqc 1.2 and USALS is about a couple of hours.:-rofl2


With Diseqc 1,2 you have to move the motor round finding all the satellies one at a time and storing the positions on the motor.

With USALS, also known as Goto X and Diseqc 1.3, the USALS software calculates the angular position the motor needs to be sent based on your location. It only needs to be setup for one satellite (ideally, nearest due south) , after that it just moves directly to the calculated positions for all the other satellites. USALS thus issues a Goto X command to the motor, where X is the angle on the motor to go to.

Diseqc 1.2 on the other hand relies on you storing all the sat positions in the motor, and when you select a satellite you want, it instructs the motor to go to one of the positions that you have stored.

BTW, The USALS software is provided freely to all STB manufacturers that want it, but yes as stated, only the Stab motors have the original USALS software on-board.
 
In addition, the usals software calculates the positions of all satellites with a precision of better than ±0.1 degrees with reference to the installation site.
 
just got hold of manual now and it states DiSEqC1.2 no usals. so take it is on diseqc

There's no such thing as a USALS motor. "Drive motor to angular position" is part of the diseqc 1.2 specs so all fully compatible diseqc motors should be able to do it. USALS is just a software feature of the receiver to work out what that angular position should be.

My Longitude is -0.7758W degrees
Latitude is 51.6N
entering the Lat is ok but Longitude the box gives me this option 000.0 so how do i enter that?? Any help will be appreciated...(Manhattan Plaza XT-CM)

It's either "-" or "W", not both.

So, "000.8" will be perfectly adequate, ensuring of course that either "-" or "W" (whichever the Manhattan permits, or expects) is selected.

Nobody can set up a Satellite system mechanically to less than 0.1 deg of accuracy (and expect it to stay there throughout wind and rain, fire and brimstone!), so the relative lack of precision in entering Longitude is not at all significant.
 
cheers Tivu - represents W.... i ended up calling Manhattan they gave me the 000.8 figure to put into the field.... it permits the "W" not minus... I have checked my dish mount thats on the wall. its is straight coz used a spirit level(inclinometer) whats annoying is if i send it to 0' then let go back to 13E it misses it and goes to 15E!!

How do you know it goes to 15º? Are you talking 15º on the motor shaft? With your co-ordinates Hotbird would be 15.2º east of zero on the motor shaft.
 
Senor Huevos...........yeah 15E on motor-markings. I dont get signal on that. when I rotate manually to near enough 13E on motor markings I get signal.
 
That means you have your zero point in the wrong place.

Re-check your co-ordinates in the receiver. Then tell the dish to move to 1West. Now align the dish at 1W by moving elevation on the dish and the motor around the kingpost, not the dish around the motor stub.
 
so basically my 0 is really 2East. Well My co-ordinates r ok 51.6N and 000.8W... I will move the motor around a bit on the wall mount & sort the elavation on dish.
 
Your site longitude is -0.7495° for Wycombe.

Leave the motor on zero and align straight onto Thor.

You need to move the dish and motor together as one around the pole and by adjustment of the dish elevation.
