Motor won't do its job properly

Yes, I'm back

After my clueless ventures earlier I've finally got the ball rolling today. When the motor is set on 0, it is on Astra 4A which is my nearest south.

Everything works absolutely fine, until I get to Hotbird. Hotbird is working properly, but not exactly crisp. When I get to anywhere east of that, it just won't budge. Nothing at all.

I have upgraded to 110cm & DVB-S2 tuners btw. I'll make pictures of the setup tomorrow.

I am getting desperate here O-no Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem this time?

sounds like you need to adjust the elevation on the motor and try moving it left and right slightly aswell as aligning the dish.

Send the dish to reference then move to 1w tune to bbc world news very strong signal then use a slightly weaker RCS channel on 1w to fine tune.

So you say I should go to 0.8w with the 0 set on 4.8e (nearest readable south) right? Then once I get to 0.8w I fine tune the weaker signal channel...

That said I have to do this all over again as the whole setup is *****ed up again after yesterday night O-no

No, that's not correct.



GJ89, you need to reset / reference the motor. Insert your coordinates into the USALs software and motorise the dish to 4.8°e. You then make your alignment onto this bird.

You mentioned [won't budge], check software limits on the receiver in addition.

When I first used my coordinates in USALS (5'9E 53'9N I think it was) Astra 4A worked fine on it... up until Hotbird.

With don't budge I meant the signal, the motor did move to selected satellite, but nothing is popping up at all. It seems to be far off judging the signal strength, yet anything between 13.0E - 4.8E experiences no problems at all.

Sounds like not tracking correctly. Having a longitude of 5.9° you need to follow the above & set up guides by motorising to Astra4 or 7°e and then make your alignment.

Is this a new install?

Just so I've got this correctly...

First I have to move the motor to 4.8E with my longitude/latitude, and then start fine-tuning it... I suppose?

Also, considering I have a 1.1m dish, I was unable to get a feed yesterday, which was received from Ireland to as far as in Albania, all of those people had a 1m dish.

In May I need to get ready for Eurovision week. I simply can not afford not being able to receive those feeds anymore. If I would want to temporarily use my motor at a fixed position, would I need to get the latitude on the motor completely inwards and use the dish elevation?

I do notice the LNB could be a bit off, but it's not on 0 right now anyways... I'll check up on it later. Also don't notice the marks I've made on the setup, they're not in use.

You've got the motor inclination set to a Latitude of 47° instead of 52°, not a big error but still worth correcting ;)

First thing is to set your latitude on the motor correctly, should be around 52 degrees, it's about 46 degrees at the moment. Then you need to do what Satelliteman says above.

 

[Channel Hopper]

The receiver (not familiar with it ) may give you a non existent transponder to peak the satellite on, which is usual with other makes (Technomate for example)

You need active channels on each satellite you are looking at for the bar to register, which often means scrolling through a number of increasing frequencies from a looong list.

A firmware upgrade may also help with finding something as databases become out of date as soon as they are released.

Just come back, and wow, it actually worked! I've only tested getting to 16E now but the peaks for Astra 1 in signal strength have convinced me it'll be no problem getting there either... it still requires fine tuning but as it's getting dark I've decided to postpone that to tomorrow I'll put on another pic of the current latitude in a moment (damn hard to adjust).

It seems I've been a bit of an ass, as the dish was very loosely adjusted to the motor, it's solid as a rock now. The LNB was not 100% right, not like it matters much it seems, but it's been adjusted. Due to it all being attached like a polyester sweater it nearly collapsed yesterday so it required me to completely switch all sides again. Used USALS 5.9E directing to 4.8E afterwards to locate Astra 4A.

The transponders is indeed a thing I walk into, but lately I've been selecting those beforehand, taking notice of the fact the transponder might be active on multiple satellites, and if they have channels that I usually watch.
