Motorised dish problems

Trying to get my Foxsat to work a motorised dish.

I set up the dish to point at Thor and tuned in the receiver (Well I think I did as I don't have clear instructions for the hidden menu). Got good signal strength.

However when I exit the menu it says the motor is moving. When I check the dish I find that it has moved 10 degrees to the west!

Any suggestions?

1. Hidden Menu: Navigate to Manual Tune, but do not select. Press Red Green Yellow Blue Green Yellow Blue but try to ignore the apparent lack of action! Once completed, select Manual Tune.

2. Are you using USALS? When you are in the hidden menus, you need to set up the Box so it knows what Antenna/DiSEqC system you are using and where you are. This is straightforward enough.

Have a good read and a fiddle around and get back to us if you have further problems.

I suspect your Foxsat isn't as clever as you at knowing where Thor is - so you need to tell it......

Latitude and Longitude for Aberdeen are around 57.2N and 2.2W. I'm sure that will be adequate, but if you are actually a country mile away, I'm sure you can find the relevant figures!

Using DiSeqC 1.2.

I got into the menu and set up those parts okay.

What shold I do in the:-

Edit Satellite Data
&
Position Setting?

I thought that I would have to let the receiver now that it was pointing at Thor. But maybe not.
 
Of course, you need to Set Position if using 1.2. , but I haven't set mine up in 1.2, so not too sure exactly what key presses are required - and I'm loathe to check as Foxsats don't seem to like changes of system and mine is fully scanned, edited etc.!

As you are just starting out, may I suggest you use USALS anyway? Much easier.

Edit: Actually, I have just popped mine into 1.2 and in Satellite Setting, select Position Setting and then scroll down to Store Current, using the East - West controls to optimise it first.

That should do it.

You can then select any other enabled Satellite and drive the Motor with the East - West control in the Position Setting menu and Set the next one etc.

Well I have to thank you for giving me an excuse to have a bit of a play!

The DiSEqC 1.2 controls are quite flexible - perhaps too much so!

One can select different Motor movement modes and can change the size of steps etc.

I'm afraid I would really struggle to explain in straightforward terms exactly how to drive it.

That said, as you have done the hard work of actually setting up the Motor and Dish, I suspect you'll get used to the foibles and wiles of the Foxsat in 1.2.

For now, I suggest (again!) USALS, or waiting until someone more articulate than I can chip in.

To get it set up in USALS, just change to that Mode, enter the Lat and Long, then with Thor selected, physically re-check and optimise the Motor/Dish alignment.
