My Satellite Setup
90cm Fortec Star Dish on a Stab Motor supported on 24" T&K brackets, with a Fortec Star Sigma reciever, picking up 4w to 42e

Hi Guys

Finally installed setup, after some hiccups, but being a novice at this i am having some problems.

I have no signal quality, but 60% on strength, which means I am not on the satellite I should be. Correct?

I have followed the guides from this forum to set it up, but I am getting conflicting information, from 2 other sources.

1) Dishpointer.com tells me that 0.8w is down my street over the pub (See pic dispoint2 and dishpoint1).

2) this compass tells me that thor 1/2/3 is pointing more towards astra 2, and this is at ground level.

I have pointed at both sites but still do not get any signal quality.

I have also tried adjusting the skew on LNB but nothing

I have set lat/long in my receiver as well.

Leaving it for today will try again tomorrow but this is getting annoying now.

See attached pics for setup.

What do you guys think.

My setup is:

Fortec Star Sigma box
80cm Metronic dish
Fortec Star FCKUVN lnb
NIkkai (maplin own) Motor.

Thanks

Mattybee

You have the Motor Latitude set incorrect at 57.

Set the Latitude to 53 which should correspond to an EL of 37 on the other side.

Move the motor around the pole and by adjusting the dish EL, located THOR as per the general compass direction for due South. Make sure you have the LNb set to zero skew which will differ on this LNb I believe see: http://www.satellites.co.uk/satelli...28721-skew-problem-fortecstar-lnb-fckuvn.html

You have the dish El correct around 22 but EL scales on some dish brackets will not be accurate so a few degrees above vertical is an ideal starting point for South.

Only use a rough south estimate- the most accurate is the satellite Thor at 1w .. the sun at 12 noon casts a perfect north -south shadow on any vertical or look for a local Sky dish and minus 28 degrees.. once you set the dish up you swing the whole thing round and dish up and down to look for Thor.

What town is that... we're in Cheshire..

If you do use a good compass, taking magnetic variation into account, Thor 0.8W from your location is around 178.0° (left a fraction from due South 180°).

dispointer is fairly accurate :D

Dont Make the mistake I did think that Thor should be my due south?

Set the motor roughly due south. send the motor via usals to Thor.

Then rotate the motor on the pole, and adjust the dish, not the motor elevation to peak the signal on thor.

Can you tell me what pub In Cheshire Thor is above.
I have a mate who lives in Winsford.
I will warn him about going in there!

Hi Mattybee,

I have been looking at the pic of your box and you have 2 (off's) and 1 on it...if one of the (off's) is Lnb Power, then you won't get a signal not matter what Sat your on.

Sorry if the Lnb power is on but I don't know your box...and I can't see the title of your settings from your pic.
Regards James.
