having trouble with my dish etc
can get atsra 2,thor 2/3 no problem but nothing else :-Nooo

the more i read about finding true south,setting motor to point at thor 2/3
to require good signal etc then all should work is driving me insane lol!!

i can set up other satellites ie hotbird using usals but they do not stay locked on my darkbox system.the next time i go back(im sure after i press store the dish moves itself to original direction) signal stregth is high but quality is zero grrr

so anyone in the Carlisle Cumbria area who can help give me a shout please:)
 
Hi, was it set up on USALS or DiSEqC 1.2 is the question.

IS it a first install attemp or has it been working and deveoped a fault.

If you have the correct long/lat in USALS and the dish was set up due South or a satellite closest to your own longitude, all should fall into place.

its my first attempt at fitting a new motorised system.
fitted dish onto a level pole on south facing wall of my house.Got long/lat of multi map deducted 7.6 of 30 to get declination angle etc.pointed dish as close to true south as i can.nipped bolts up set receiver to point at thor 2/3,of it moves,no picture/quality,move it very slightly east,bang strong signal good picture 89% signal 83% quality(have also tried altering up/down at this point),ok tighten all nuts now tight.now back inside house using remote telling darkbox receiver to head for astra using USALS,get ziltch,ok,now on usals settings i select move(say east a little bit bang good signal astra2 locked),then select store,now im thinking to myself great its working,until i look for any other satellite and cannot find one lol
eurotel i can get but the dish is way of the target using usals,i have to move dish a good way to get it to lock....

and thats about it i have also tried finding satellites using DISEqC 1.2 manual selection with little success.....

am i aiming for the wrong satellite(ie thor 2/3) for my part of the world?

got reciever set at 2.5 on longitude
 
If in USALS mode, storing the position will do nothing. This is for DiSEqC 1.2 postioning.

Thor 1W is fine for dish set up reference satellite as your longitude 2.9°W. This or 5W can be used.

> Make sure all is plumb
> Check dish is centre on motor shaft.
> Make sure LNb is vertical or straight
> Check motor scale is set to 55°
> Start off with motor at zero
> Go into USALS and input your details: Latitude: 54.8951° / Longitude: -2.9336° (2.9W)
> Send dish to 1W/Thor or select a transponder on this satellite.
> Alignment to dish by adjusting the dish & Motor together round the pole and by the dish El only.
> If using the receiver signal screen to test/set up on, use transponder 11.325H BBC world.

If all is plumb and you follow above, your system should work.

Also read the set up guides in this section, they just repeat what I have suggested.

ps please explain "If in USALS mode, storing the position will do nothing." why does it give you the option to store? (could this be the reason when i leave usals screen the dish moves of strong signal like automaticly and points at nothing!!!) lol
am i correct in thinking that usals is a one hit function and all the other satellites should just fall into place?

Correct. Store function is for DiSEqC 1.2 :)
 
Something worth noting, It may be different on your system, but I found that when I accidentally stored a position on my system, USALS threw a wobbly and would not move the dish past the the point it was at when I pressed store.

I ended up having to reset the motor, As I say, things may be different in your case.

done all of the above

this is what i can get(says satellite is locked)

turksat 1c
hispasat 1cd
telecom 2d
thor 2/3

is this normal or should i be getting a lot more.
when sent to other satellites using usals i get no signal/quality

Sounds like your on the arc if you can get 42e, 1w and 30w

Use USALS to send the dish to a satellite and scan transponders or satellite. Some lists maybe out of date.

A rough idea, you should get: 42e,39e,36e,28e,23.5e (A1),19e,16e,13e,9e,7e,5e,1w,5w,8w,12.5w,15w,18w,22w,27.5w & 30w

Not sure if your get all as the coverage differs to that of the South :)

Did you do a reset on the motor? If so, did it help?
