Motorised system - 3 satellites, no more..

hi, ok guys im new to the forums and to satellites, but i have set up a motorised .80 dish with a satcatcher voyager 2 receiver.

my problem is, i have saved 3 satellites, astra 28e, astra 19e and hotbird 13e, once i move further west i cant seem to find anything else, i dunno is the problem with my elevation? i didnt think so because i picked up 3 so the motor seems to be arcing ok.

maybe too small of dish?

The 3 sats you are picking up have strong signals into this part of the world, so if you were slightly out you could potentially still pick up a signal on these strong satellites, even though you were slightly off. Once you go elsewhere on the arc, you could see problems.

Did you use a reference sat to align the dish/motor? Depending on your location, your reference sat should probably be either 5W or 8W.

Once you align to your reference sat, everyting else should fall into place provided your have set your motor up properly.
 
thanks for the quick respone mate, i actually had a specialist do it, friend of a friend, seemed handier than making a mess of it myself, since its up there i wanna get into it all a bit. to be honest i think he was starting on 28e, then he got 19, he walked me through it all till i understood, and from there i got hotbird handy enough, then kept going west by pushing west on my remote slowly and picking up no signals at all further that direction, im happy to adjust etc. myself from here if i had some advice from you guys

Sorry, I had assumed you had installed yourself.

What make/model motor do you have?

I don't know your receiver, but it probably supports USALS / GotoX. (Take a look in the setup menus). If so, you set your latitude/longitude and provided the dish and motor are aligned correctly, the receiver can tell the motor exactly where to go to find all the satellites, saving you the hassle of finding and storing them.

apparantly, or so the guy installing it said, i have to move along them 1 by 1 storing them as i find them, i have a menu with all the satellites in it, but if i go to them nothing happens, as if i have to sort of calibrate it all myself. to be honest i have no idea what make of motor it is
 
so do you? think i should go out and start from scratch, trying to find 1 west first, by moving the dish up and down, side to side with my hands whilst watching the tv screen?

if i did this, how would i know it is definately thor i have landed on, would i need to scan and see if its the right channels, and keep doing that until i find it?

Thats entirely up to you. I wouldnt recommend you take it on unless you are sure of what you are doing.

If you are going to do it, take some time to read up on it so that you have a good understanding of how it all works. Read through Rolfw's guide a few times.

Also, get yourself a cheap sat meter, it will save you a lot of hassle.

If you're not comfortable with what you are doing, you could end up causing yourself a lot of headaches if you start messing with the dish+motor, especially in this weather!

You need to find out why he said this, maybe there is a good reason for it??
 
i have just found usals in the menu though, your can change the diseqc value from 1.2 motor to usals..
 
I set a motorised system up about a month ago for the first time.
I started by finding out my latitude and longitude and setting up USALS option on 1 W which was in my preloaded list of satellites.
After that I just checked satellites by gradually setting them up 1 at a time starting with 13E / 19.2E and 28E

Edited the title of this thread to suit.

It's quite possible that the dish may not be tracking the arc of course. Assume your installer set it up using DISEqC 1.2

You'll not know if he setup on your reference satellite or not..or even accounted for any offset.

What's your exact longitude and what motor do you have?
 
i dont actually know what motor it is, and my latitude is 54.7 and longitude is -5.9

i used 1w (thor) as reference satellite btw

remember when adjusting....

MOVE DISH AND MOTOR TOGETHER for initial setup

finding three sats was same as happened to me...
i changed setup satellite to 1w and now get
every sat i need automatically..
 
Yes and all explained in the motor set up guides :)
 
the guides on here are excellent...

thats where i started lol

but once you do one or two it becomes habit
