I wouldn't concrete in a pole because there's little chance of getting it absolutely 100% vertical, better to bury something that is adjustable.

Another quick question. Going to install all of this tomorrow and was going to use Thor/Intelsat 10-02 at 0.8W to align for obvious reasons. Which transponders are good to use? Was hoping for a strong one to get it roughly right and a weak one for fine tuning?

Thanks!

Hi, I use this transponder,

I'm using postmix. Sets in like 10 minutes apparently. So should be fine!

Yes you should have no problems ive fitted two level poles for dishes with it, probably teaching you how to suck eggs, but make sure you check the pole both ways for level.

Installed it this morning. Aligned on Thor and was getting about 84% on the Dreambox. However it seems the further East and West I move it gets slightly out of line and I have to give a few button pushes on the motor. Any ideas?

I have sunk two poles in quick setting concrete with no problems I used 3x guide ropes pegged in the ground to hold it dead vertical in 360 degrees,
90cm dish has an 8 foot scaffold pole sunk into 3 feet of concrete 2 x 8"bolts drilled into the base crossways to stop wind movement,
100cm dish has an 9 foot linen pole sunk into the ground 3 feet upside down for extra stability,
I have aligned both dishes on Intelsat 10-02 @ 1 west using transponder 12687 H 27500 Realitatea TV.

This is it so far... Just the cable run to sort out. The push on the motor thing has seemed to of resolved itself.

I wonder if you've fallen into the common trap of using the wrong scale on the Motor?

There are usually two scales, one on either side of the bracket.

Often folk use the scale marked "Elevation" to set their Latitude to, but ONLY the Latitude scale should be used: Otherwise you end up tracking the central part of the arc ok, but need to tweak a few notches when panning further out.

Quick question. I think this should work, but just wanted clarity. The DM800 is only a single tuner. If I set the tuner to 'advanced' and put a diseqc switch in the chain. One input going to the mutiswitch (minidish fixed on 28.2e on the front of the house) and the other to the new motorised install using USALS... Will it work? Motorised install can't see round to 28.2e as house is in the way.

Just a temporary fix until I upgrade the box. Looking a Vu+ Duo2.

You should be able to, I know you can on a VU+ Duo 2, by using the advanced tuner option, Diseqc A,B, and setting one for the motorized dish and the other for the fixed dish, but this was running a newer Black Hole image.
I'm unsure of the DM 800 options, the images it can use, and its hardware.

It's running Gemini image. I think it V4 off the top of my head.

PS - How do you find the VU+ Duo2?

All been set up and motor is tracking the arc nicely. However, I'm beginning to think I might need to upgrade the dish (it's a TD78). Been trying to pull in the F1 feeds from Monaco on 7E and the Dreambox is having none of it. I did briefly manage to get it this morning and then it went :(.

Just upgraded the Dreambox image to Newnigma2 so rescanning the arc. On the plus side I seem to be able to pull in Nilesat at 7W!

You can not get Nilesat at your location, what you are getting is Eutelsat 7 West A @ 7,3*W

If you get a 1mtr are you going to be satisfied ?, you appear keen and done/doing your homework:), my advise would be keep a look out for a used channel master 1.2:) then go for a 1.8 :D

Ahh yes. My mistake. Seem to be getting the 'MENA' beam. I remember seeing Qatar TV HD on the list which is also on that beam. Don't know if any of it is watch-able yet. It's now scanning 4.8E so has a little while to go.

I think I'll stop a metre... I won't get a 1.8 in the garden! Are the 7E feeds normally quite weak? In all seriousness how much difference will an extra 10/20cm make? If I go for the next size up or so? Something I've been meaning to test is how much is lost on the cable run to see how many dB I could gain with an amp. Cable run is about 25-30m.

Difference between 1m and 1,2 dish is approximately 30%, so reception with 1,2 meter is much better.
