My Satellite Setup
Zone 1 Minidish pointing at 19.2e +TNTSat FR Receiver (FujiOnkyo)

Hi all,

Total newbie here, looking for some advice about replacing my Zone 1 minidish, which is currently pointed at Astra 19.2e.

I'd like to receive TPs from as many Sats as possible (Astra 1 is the most important for me), but I live in a small house and I don't think that anything over a 60cm dish is really an option for me.

I *think* my best options are as follows:

  1. Motorised Zone 2 Sky Dish
  2. Motorised Standard 60cm Dish (although no idea which is best)
  3. 45cm Technisat Multytenne
I'm currently missing a couple of TPs from 19.2e on my Zone1, so whichever option I chose would need to be an improvement.

Any feedback on which of these ideas you think is best would be much appreciated! :)

You should't be missing any tps on a zone 1, which ones?
To get the most satellites on a 60cm dish, the best option is to motorise.

A zone2 can be motorised but will need some way of attachng to the motor.

I would recommend a 68cm Penta. They look really small, but perform well.

Just motorised a Zone 2 (60cm) dish.
It replaced a 45cm Zone 1 pointed at (1w) RCS, Digitv.
Zone 1s best Sig Quality on Diditv film 1 % 2, was 30%, Black screen
when it rained.
The new Zone 2 dish pulls in a Sig Quality on Digitv of 58%, and
never goes off in rain.
My Channel list (Humax HDCI2000) goes from 30w to 45e.
Pickup all Sats Execpt Nilesat 7w.
30w pulls in 96% Sig Quality.
12.5w 50% Sig
5e Sirius 98% Sig
9e 84%
13e 84%
16e 45%
19e 92%
23.5e 82%
28e True Movies 100%, lowest Sig on this sat is 80%
39e 82%
42e Turkisat 100%

As Robbo said, had to utilise two U bolts from (Gearbox) Car Silencer bolts
to attach Zone 2 dish to Motor.

Spambox, Zone 2 60cm Dish was £21.99 with LNB at TVS.
 
I also recommend the 68cm Penta as it is the best of all choices by a huge margin.

There is no point in motorizing a _Sky Zone 2 dish due to the need for the matching LNB and LNB holder which means the skew is never optimal.

It would be better to motorize a round 60cm perforated 'mesh' dish with a normal LNB if you needed the most lightweight option. But you will never regret getting the Penta. :)
 
You can get round the skew though, if you skew the whole dish when it is on 1w, that will compensate for the oval feedhorn. By the lime the dish lays over to 28e it should look "normal".

@Robbo, I checked this morning and noticed that I'm missing nearly half of the 134 TPs that my Receiver is aware of on Astra1. I should be able to do better than this with a Zone1 (bearing in mind my location), shouldn't I?
 
I think I'll look into the 68cm Penta. Can anyone recommend a good supplier for them (my googling only turned up one supplier).

Any recomendations for a motor? :)

Check the receiver LNb set is set to universal (9750/10600).

There's only one main retail supplier as far as I know, High Definition. I usually use the TM2300(nylon gears) or TM2600 (metal gears), or a Moteck sg2100, again check out site sponsors.
 
Now that the Penta has been decided on, I'd be interested in some more opinions on Motors, mounting etc.....

Is there an easy way to do this? i just bought a motor without thinking and now I'm stuck. It's a TM-2600.
 
There are a couple of threads about motoring a Zone 2 dish. Do a forum search for "Motorised Zone2" and you should find them.
 
Yeah, I figured it out. I left a part in the box and now I just need to pinch it :)

Will do, yes there are some good pictures showing motor & dish attachment.
