Hi

I have very limited places to place a dish. At the moment a zone 1 attached to the fence post at bottom of the garden.

Is it worth motorizing a zone 1 minidish?
How safe is it attaching a dish to fencepost?

Also I cannot believe it but I am picking up FTA channels from 1W on said minidish. I didnt think this would be possible.

Which Channels from 1W are you actually getting ? Are you sure they aren't from 5W, which is mega-strong?

Quite a few folk have motorised Zone 1 dishes successfully, but I think the bother of finding a way of mating it with a DiSEqC motor stub means it's something only for the dedicated.

You should get decent results from 28E, 19E, 13E, 5W, 30W and a few more, however.

Frankly, why not go the whole nine yards and get a proper dish of around 80cm?

Excellent stuff - most definitely 1W.

I see from Satelliteman's link that he got Channels from 1W too.

Good point about the fence post.

Yep, a Zone 1 is very easy to fit to a motor, and quite a few sats can be achieved with it. I have managed to get BBC World with a minidish too, but it is well 'iffy' on the signal quality.

For an 80cm, Of course it depends how strong the fence posts are. What you could do is to sink a pole in the ground and concrete it in. For extra bracing if needed for extra height, whack some 4 by 2 accross the fence posts, and fix a T or K to it.

If digging a hole, you may hit solid chalk, in which case you may need to get something from the hire shop, like a breaker.

The Mk4 zone1 may prove slightly better having dimensions of 59cm x 44cm.
