What on earth is that all about?

And why does one fall over after four pints of it?
 
Any old excuse for a tipple, to me mulled wine is a nice glass of Shiraz just above room temperature and my mind left to its own thoughts, has been known to catch out the lightweights.

Depends on how good the whisky is - I dont have any hesitation sticking a couple of capfuls of tescos own brand stuff into my mulled wine :D
 
I once had mulled wine at a New Years party thrown by English friends while they were living here. It was probably the worst thing I've ever drunk. By all means put whisky in it, just make sure you've thrown out the mulled wine first!!
 
or just skip the wine and go straight on the whiskey, if thats your drink but dont have too much to miss the chasing new years eve tomorrow.
 
It's possibly a tad rude to ask one's neighbours to further "fortify" their best effort at spoiling a perfectly good Red wine (by bunging bits of fruit and stuff in it and hotting it up) ................ but if we're asked back next year, I do have a hip flask !!
 
I think they'd put way too many cloves in it which put me right off. I still have a measure or two of 12 year old single malt Glenfiddich with which to pass away the evening.....
 
I have to admit Im partial to the Lidl Gluwein.

Ive got a mug in front of me now to warm myself up after Id been outside to scrape the ice off the dish lnb's! (Loss of signal on several channels across the arc!)

Hard frost last night went by 10.30 and it's now dank, cool and drizzly.

Time to see if the latest batch of Beer is ready (I try a glass each day but normally it's three-quarters gone before it's fully cleared and conditioned!
 
Not something I drink all of the time, but a well prepared Mulled Wine, Vin Chaud, Gluhwein, or whatever the national variant, can be warming and a pleasant experience. Have had some great times in mountain top cafes drinking it.

It snowed for a couple of hours earlier & it froze on the lnb's :D Just the merest hint of white on the ground and I doubt it'll stick round long as the ground is very wet and and its raining again now.

Many years ago I made barley wine. 2 Boots kits (that shows how long ago it was) and about 6 bags of sugar. It was started in April & bottled in November. It was unbelievably strong. I had 2 bottles of it one night and could hardly stand up! :)
 
Locals in these 'ere parts have a penchant for distilling their own calvados, which I have sampled before in coffee (the calvados was dispensed from a 2 litre plastic coke bottle).......usually the mix is 50% coffee and 50% calvados......can't remember much after I sampled it!!

Actually there's a calvados distillery near here that you can have a guided tour of.....with sampling afterwards....I can recommend their equivalent of 'Baileys'
 
Astoundingly, Tesco has own brand calvados. I expect it is the reject stuff that they would not dare sell in France.
 
Can only be 'proper' Calva (locals offer you a 'petit calva' with your coffee when you visit) if it's AOC or 'appellation controlée'. More info :
