Multi feed dish

Just to let you know i have just bought a wave frontier T90. I went a bit cheap and I bought 4 Icecrypt LNBs I intend to replace them as i replenish funds! and i already have a 0.1 best, (the dish comes with 5 holders. Where can you buy additional holders?

I need to buy a Diseqc Switch, I notice you talked about an EMP one, are these the best ones? I know some are pretty bad, I intend to wall mount it outside inside in an IP55 weatherproof box. do you have any ideas of a reasonable priced one? I didn't want to spend as much as £35 on one but if I must, I must. Ideally I would like an 8 way model as that is how many LNBs I intend to have by the time I am finished.

Finally, how heavy is the dish and LNBs when complete? The reason i ask is because I wondered whether you have it mounted on a full KT bracket as you would with a large motorised dish or can you mount it on a sky dish mount style, to keep it as close to the house as possible.?

Spaun switches are undoubtably the best when it comes to uncommitted switches, but I have had no problems with my EMP switches. Again I am sure Ian can source them. I'm not sure on the price off the top of my head but I think you will be looking at about the £35.00 mark.

It's a heavy beast when fully assembled, heavier than most motorised. It does come with a wall bracket, but I have mine mounted on TK's. They take a 2 1/4" mast though so you would have to pack out the 2" mast from the TK's to do it. Best to go with the supplied mast if you can.
 
Thanks mate. I cant wait for the weekend now. I have to be honest i bought it all on ebay in the end due to cost. if i fall stuck, can i give you a shout? just need a switch now and some cable and i am all done.
 
I actually have a question for you Rick, What dish inclination etc did you set your dish to? did you just set the dish up and then move the LNB along the pole untill you got a lock? on a scale of 1 -10 10 being hardest 3 being an average sky installation and 6 being an average motorised installation, where would you put installation of one of these?

I notice that you do installs in Merseyside, how much would you charge to come and install one of these if i fail miserably? I will have it all up together and mounted on a pole, it would be a case of aligning the LNBs

I have a satlook Micro G2 so i will be using that to tune it all in this weekend probably. Spoke to Ian at SS and you are right, top bloke.

Another thing that i have Just thought about, Commited and uncommited switches, What is the difference? Which will i need? 8 LNBs all going in to 1 dreambox 800 / 500 / VU depending on my mood.
 
I just set the elevation and skew at what looked about right, then adjusted to allign the centre satellite. I havent actually looked at the skew scale to see what it is, but I will check when I get a chance and let you know what it is, that will give you a good starting point. I'd put one of these at an 8 or 9, though once I've done 5 or 6 i'm sure they will get alot easier lol.

Assembly is pretty easy, just time consuming. There's an exploded diagram that comes with the dish that shows where all the nuts and bolts go. Really needs to be printed bigger though.

If you post your rough co-ordinates and the most east and west satellites I can give you a dish skew and central satellite.

No way. Mine is on a 60mm diameter extra heavy duty L bracket with 300mm square footprint. Pole needs to be 100% plumb (just like a motorised) so T & Ks and a 60mm pole would be even better.

I'm posting a couple of pictures. My 9ºE LNB is about 9.5ºE in an attempt to cover 9ºE and 10ºE with one LNB but it's not brilliant on either satellite and I'm thinking of putting individual ones on 9ºE and 10ºE. So currently there is one LNB on 9.5ºE, one on 7ºE and one on 5ºE in non-standard holders. Also posted a photo of 5ºW and 7ºW which are set up with true 2º separation. Also 11ºW and 12.5ºW (1.5º separation). The holders are empty in the photo but are correctly aligned.

Huevos, I might have missed them in your other thread, but do you have pics of how your LNB rail is attached to the dish ? Also did you pull the stainless into the same curve as the original rail ? I'm seriously thinking of doing this to my own dish, it's a really good mod.
 
So you h=ave swapped the original LNB arm for a metal one?

My co-ord is 53.4n 3w roughley. what is that skinny little LNB? have you butchered a normal one to get that?

I am looking to get the following "essential"
1w, 13,16,19.2 and 28.2e

the following are desirable in order of desirability!
4.8, 7,9/10
 
That little LNB looks like an Inverto Multiconnect.

It's not stainless, it's anodised aluminium tube. The holders are aluminium too so using stainless would probably cause galvanic erosion after a while. The holders are Vantage ones. All the bits to mount the rail come with the holders. Holders are in sets of four. The tube is 10mm diameter and 2 metres long. Bend radius is more or less the same as the standard guide bar. I just bent it over my knee. Have a look at Hakon's thread, there are lots of ideas in there. For me this was the easiest of all because everything was easy to get hold of and didn't need the help of an engineering shop. One problem with Hakon's design is you can't use a short neck LNB like a Black Premium. You either need a Black Ultra or a short body like a Smart Titanium. I haven't got a close-up of where it is bolted on but you can see pretty well in Hakon's thread. If you want any more pictures I can take some in the daylight tomorrow.

As a starting point I'd say 13ºE as central and set the skew around 100-101º.

Start with the dish level and set the elevation to 27º (see photo), then skew the dish. Then, in theory, you just need to twist it round the pole until you hit 13ºE.

Thanks Huevos, i'll have another read through that thread. Good point on the galvanic corrosion, hadn't thought that one through.

Hey Rick, just out of interest, I am guessing your only getting the stronger German transponders on 23.5e not the weaker CSLink ones from where you are?
 
No, I need my 1.2m Fibo to pull those and Kabel Deutchland in, so I didn't expect the T90 to get them.
 
Yeah that's what I thought, everyone says 1.2M for CSLink, but its biiigggggg diisssshhhh!
 
Got my dish and thanks for the tips, spent 2 nights building it and putting up the frame for mounting it. it is now ready to go up. It will take a while me thinks!

one thing that has annoyed me is most dishes have a chart built on the so you know the angle, this doesnt. the diagram shows an angle thing, i dont have one of them so i might have to make one out of wood cut to the desired angle and then just tighten the nut till it meets!!
