Multi LNB on fixed-dish system

I am a novice and would like some help with my setup.

I want to setup a fixed dish multi lnb system with a technomate 9100, 90cm metronic dish and 3 lnbs.

I installed the dish with 1 lnb pointing at 28.2 some time ago, everything worked fine after some fun with the tuning. I was getting about 80% signal strength.

I bought a multi lnb arm and a monoblock lnb for Astra 1 (19) and Hotbird (13) - this one. _http://www.dipol.com.pl/pict/a98315+.jpg

when I installed the multi lnb arm the lnb holder now rests on top of the arm so it is a little higher than when it was in the original holder - this has resulted in a drop in signal strenght and a loss of about 1/2 the channels.
Do I need to adjust the elevation to account for the change of lnb position?

Next - I have a separate coax running into the house for the monoblock lnb. For now I will swith the coax in at the receiver until I get a DiSEqC switch.
If I keep the dish pointed at 28.2 the new lnb for astra1/hotbird will sit to the right as I face the dish - correct? The arm is completly flat - does this lnb need to be higher or lower.

Lastly, (for now!), how do I configure the technomate for the astra1/hotbird lnb. There are multiple options - 2 satellites via toneburst, 22khz etc. I think I should run the coax to my other fta receiver that has the channels for those 2 satellites pre-programmed until I get it tuned correctly.

Thoughts?

Welcome,

Monobloc or 3 x LNb & Multi-bracket ??? one or other.

In answer to your question regarding LNb resting hiher on the top of the arm - You need to re-align the dish once the arm and LNb's are on.

For switching LNb's set the receiver to DiSEqC 1.0/1.1 or mini-DiSEqC depending on your receiver. A setting of A,B or 1,2 should be used.

If setting up for 3 x LNb on a LNb bracket then align up on 19e and offset 13e and 28e. Seperate feeds for 28e and DiSEqC switch for 19e & 13e or all three via switch.

Thanks Satelliteman,
I will try to realign the dish to get the signal back for 28.2.

Not sure I understand the question - Monobloc or 3 x LNb & Multi-bracket ??? one or other.

I have a single lnb for 28.2 and a monobloc for 19/13. I guess I could align the dish to 19, the dual lnb is 6 degrees off so that should pick up 13 and put 28 on the left with the single lnb.

Normally install one or the other option,... athough I suppose you could:

Fit the multi-bracket and chop off or bend down the East side, then fit the monobloc aligned to 19e. The other end of the bracket will allow for the single LNb for 28e.

If you don't cut off or bend down the East side of the bracket, the monobloc cannot be lowered to account the the higher EL difference of 13e.

Hope this makes good sense.

Not a good idea to try install a monoblock and an extra LNB, it is just making more work for yourself, and complicates the switching. This is because you can't normally cascade two Diseqc 1.0 switches. It can be done but could be problematical. There is information about this on the forum already. Or you could use a non-committed switch, to switch between the 28E LNB and the monoblock.

Ditch the monoblock and get two singles plus a 4-way Diseqc 1.0. There will be far more flexibility in the adjustment of the LNBs and connection and receiver setup would be very simple.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Looks like I tried to go for the easy option - monoblock, removing any flexibility individual lnbs would give me. I will definately take your advice and go for singles.

Here is where I am with it.

I brought my portable and original Metronic receiver outside to help with some fine tuning. I started with the main lnb - 28.2E. I improved the signal and quality - both to about 80. When I switched to the technomate inside the house, signal and quality were still very high and reprogrammed all the channels.

Next I installed the multi lnb arm and monobloc lnb.

After some time I was able to receive 13E with a signal strength of 46-60 depending on the transponder and quality around 45-50.
When I switched to the technomate it has never been able to lock onto a transponder and does not find any channels.
Is my signal too weak for the technomate? The metronic receiver is pre-programmed for hotbird, quality seems very good, so I am not sure why the technomate is unable to find any channels.

Everything else I tried on the technomate (manually searching etc) has not worked.

I have not been able to receive both 19 and 13 simultaneously. I know I need to do some work with the arm to lower the lnb for 19.

I don't know what bracket you have, but given the choice it is best to focus on 19E, then put the other 2 either side. Failing that if the bracket is only on one side, focus the dish on 13e.

Focussing on 28E is bad, because that is the stongest sat. You want the less strong sats nearer the focus, than the strong ones.

As I said before, trying to incorporate a monoblock with other LNBs will cause switching problems unless they are taken care of.

Maybe upload a few pictures of your dish & bracket so we can see.
